Eighteen years after a private video of Kim Kardashian and Ray J was made public, their ongoing legal issues have taken a new turn. Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, initially sued Ray J for defamation, claiming he falsely suggested they were about to face a racketeering lawsuit. Now, Ray J is suing them back, focusing on the video. Kardashian and Jenner’s lawyer dismissed Ray J’s lawsuit as a tactic to divert attention from the original claims.
Kim Kardashian’s Lawyer Responds To Ray J’s New Sex Tape Lawsuit
As a huge follower of celebrity news, I’ve been keeping up with the drama between Ray J and Kim Kardashian. Their lawyer, Alex Spiro, just responded to Ray J’s lawsuit. Basically, Ray J – William Ray Norwood Jr. is his full name – is sticking to his story that he didn’t leak that old tape with Kim Kardashian back in 2007. He claims they both agreed to release it, and even says Kim’s mom, Kris Jenner, was involved. Spiro told Page Six…
It’s clear Ray J is losing his legal battle and seems increasingly lost in his arguments. This disorganized approach isn’t working, and he’s likely to lose this unnecessary case as well.
Alex Spiro strongly dismissed the new lawsuit as pointless, characterizing it as a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the legal action his clients had already initiated against Ray J.
What Is Ray J Accusing Kim Kardashian And Kris Jenner Of?
Ray J has long claimed that Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian were responsible for the release of a sex tape he says they both willingly participated in back in 2003, which was then leaked in 2007. His lawyer, Howard King, detailed this in recent court filings.
For twenty years, Jenner and Kardashian have maintained the claim that the sex tape Kardashian made with Ray J was released without her consent, a story that has now been disputed.
According to the lawsuit, Ray J and Kim Kardashian talked about releasing the tape back in 2006, and she suggested her mother, Kris Jenner, handle it. Ray J now claims both women are angry because he’s refusing to support what he believes is a false story.
The lawsuit also mentions their filing against him, saying:
The legal battle between Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner isn’t really about someone being defamed. It’s more about gaining attention, asserting control, and seeking retribution.
Let’s take a look at the events that led to The Kardashians stars filing the defamation suit.
Ray J Sued For Defamation Following Comments About An Alleged RICO Case
As a movie critic, I’ve seen plenty of drama unfold, but this latest development with the Kardashians is something else. Kim and Kris Jenner were forced to take legal action against Ray J after he went on a livestream claiming he was helping federal agents build a RICO case – that’s a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act case – against the whole family. Their lawyer was pretty blunt about it, stating definitively that no such investigation exists, and that no law enforcement agency is looking into any racketeering charges against them. Basically, they’re saying Ray J’s claims are completely false, and they’re prepared to fight it in court.

Hulu is offering a 30-day free trial for both its ad-supported and ad-free plans. This lets you watch everything on Hulu, including original series and movies like The Kardashians, for a month before you start paying. Plans begin at $9.99 per month. See the deal here.
Kim Kardashian continues to be affected by the release of her sex tape, which has been referenced on both the family’s reality shows. She even made light of it during her opening monologue when she hosted Saturday Night Live in 2021, and her mother, Kris Jenner, famously took a lie detector test on James Corden’s late-night show, seemingly to prove she wasn’t involved.
It’s amazing to me that even after 18 years, the drama surrounding The Kardashians is still causing legal battles – both sides are still fighting it out in court! It’ll be interesting to see where those lawsuits go, but in the meantime, if you’re following the show, new Season 7 episodes are released every Thursday on Hulu. I, for one, am still watching!
