As a big fan of the Now You See Me films, I was excited to see the third one, and it definitely delivers on the franchise’s trademark shocking twists – though it might leave you scratching your head a little! This time around, the Four Horsemen (plus a new recruit!) are back, and they’ve set their sights on stealing a seriously valuable diamond from the incredibly wealthy and seemingly corrupt Veronika Vanderberg, played by Rosamund Pike. The goal isn’t just the theft, though; they’re aiming to expose her shady dealings with money laundering.
It seems the mysterious group known as the Eye is once again pulling the strings. The original Four Horsemen – J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Jack Wilder, and Henley Reeves – receive invitations that act as a map, leading them to a castle in France. But they can’t do it alone; they need help from a new trio of talented magicians – Charlie, Bosco Leroy, and June – who are running similar schemes in Brooklyn.
How Charlie Pulled the Strings in ‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t’

Lionsgate Films
Throughout the movie, Charlie initially appears as a nervous and unassuming person who works from the shadows and is intimidated by the Horsemen he admires. While clearly talented and smart, almost no one realizes how much control Charlie actually has – except for his two friends. This misdirection is crucial, as it sets up the surprising reveal that he’s Veronika Vanderberg’s long-lost half-brother, who she thought died in a car crash fifteen years ago.
The story of the Vanderberg family’s troubled past unfolds largely during Veronika’s questioning by Merritt. The experienced magician tries to manipulate her by analyzing her psychology and bringing up her past, revealing that her father—the former CEO and a Nazi—was emotionally distant and neglectful. Her mother also craved his attention and tragically took her own life after discovering his affair with the housekeeper. Driven by this, Veronika believed she had arranged the deaths of the housekeeper and her younger half-brother.
For fifteen years, Charlie meticulously planned his revenge on those he believed harmed his mother, specifically aiming to expose Veronika’s involvement in the company’s wrongdoing. He drew inspiration from his father’s love of magic and the Horsemen, crafting an elaborate scheme that even fooled experienced magicians like Atlas and Merritt into helping him. The culmination of his plan unfolded in Abu Dhabi, where Vanderberg had recently purchased a Formula 1 racing team. As the Four Horsemen – now including Lula May – escaped from a secure enclosure, Charlie sprung his final trap, publicly revealing Veronika’s actions to a large audience.
Veronika is arrested, and the movie suggests her fortune will be taken and given to Charlie, who intends to share it with the public. He also plans to give a valuable item called “the Heart” to the people of South Africa, effectively sharing wealth the Vanderberg family has controlled for many years.
How ‘Now You Don’t’s Ending Sets Up ‘Now You See Me’ 4

Lionsgate
It was already announced that Lionsgate was working on a fourth Now You See Me movie, so Now You See Me: Now You Don’t needed to set up a continuation. The film brings back the eight main characters, reuniting them at their secret Brooklyn headquarters to celebrate defeating Veronika, and includes a rekindled romance between Jack and Lula, continuing their story from the second film. Despite earlier scenes showing Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) supposedly imprisoned in Russia, a holographic message reveals he was pretending and is secretly plotting something big.
It’s been nine years since the last Now You See Me movie, so it’s uncertain when a fourth film will be released. Although work on another installment began before Now You Don’t, the movie’s success at the box office will still play a role in its development. However, the series has plenty of potential for future stories, and the new, younger characters introduced in Now You Don’t set the stage for continued adventures.
The Real Meaning of ‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t’s Ending, Explained

Lionsgate
The movie Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is designed to be fun and exciting, blending magic with the action and heist thriller genres. While it doesn’t focus heavily on deep emotional stories, it does offer some interesting themes to consider. The Now You See Me films generally present a ‘Robin Hood’ idea, where the main characters – the Four Horsemen and the Eye – use their skills to steal from the rich and give to the people, a concept seen in the story with Charlie and the downfall of Veronika Vanderberg.
Family, both by blood and by choice, is a central theme of the movie. Despite a difficult past – including a dangerous conflict with his half-sister – Charlie finds support and a new sense of belonging with Bosco and June. The Horsemen, who had been separated for years, also rediscover the power of their bond. Ultimately, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t unites them, allowing them to achieve their greatest potential as a team.
