PUBG’s Original Creator Is Planning FPS With 100v100 Matches

So, Brendan Greene – you probably know him as PlayerUnknown from PUBG – just announced some seriously cool plans for his studio. They’re working on three new games, and one of them is aiming for massive 100-versus-100 player battles! I’m already hyped to see what they come up with.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Brendan Greene outlined his 10-year vision for PlayerUnknown Productions, the studio he founded in 2019. Their first game, Prologue: Go Wayback, is a single-player survival game where players explore worlds created using artificial intelligence. It will be available in early access from November 20th. Greene has previously admitted he anticipates an initial negative reaction from players.

The studio’s next game will experiment with multiplayer, potentially supporting battles with up to 100 players on each side, according to creator Brendan Greene in an interview with Eurogamer. He described the game – which currently doesn’t have a title – as a blend of first-person shooter and real-time strategy gameplay, and explained it will be used to test large-scale features like terrain creation, interactions with computer-controlled characters, and the game’s network performance.

The studio’s third game would be a more imaginative project, building on ideas from their first two titles. It would let players design their own planets and use them for different purposes, such as making a custom first-person shooter game.

I’m so excited about the next game! Right now, it’s still in the early planning stages – they’ve got the big ideas down, but haven’t started building everything yet. What’s really cool is they’re using their own engine called Melba, and it uses AI to basically create realistic-looking planets on the fly. It’s going to be amazing!

Greene says the studio has a rough estimate of how long it will take to start working on the second game, anticipating it will take two to four years, and possibly even longer. He explained that the entire three-game project is envisioned as a 10-year undertaking.

So, Brendan Greene, the guy who really got PUBG: Battlegrounds off the ground, hasn’t been involved with the game for a while now. He left Krafton back in 2021 to work on some new stuff, which is cool, but it definitely felt different when he moved on.

Games with massive player counts are uncommon now. Most battle royale games host between 60 and 120 players, and recent shooters like Battlefield 6 limit matches to 64 players. While PlayStation 3 players might recall MAG, which allowed for 128 versus 128 battles, PlayerUnknown Productions is aiming for something even more ambitious with how it creates its game world.
