Hideo Kojima, the famous creator of the video game Death Stranding, has revealed plans for a new animated series based on the game. Disney+ will stream the series, and Kojima says it will be incredibly impressive.
Given its focus on a compelling story and visuals, it wasn’t surprising when Kojima Productions announced a live-action movie adaptation of Death Stranding in December 2022. The project is currently in development, with A24 co-producing and Michael Sarnoski set to direct.
The live-action movie is just the first step for Death Stranding’s future. Kojima Productions also announced in September that they’re creating an anime film called Mosquito, which will feature a brand new and exciting story.
Hideo Kojima announced a new animated TV series this week at a Disney+ event in Hong Kong. The show will be based on his popular action-adventure game.
Death Stranding animated series to stream on Disney+
The new animated series is currently called Death Stranding: Isolations, and is planned to launch in 2027. It will be available to watch only on Disney+.
A new anime series based on ‘Death Stranding,’ titled ‘DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS,’ is currently being produced. Hideo Kojima will serve as executive producer, and the show is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2027.

The game benefits from a talented development team, led by executive producer Hideo Kojima and director Takayuki Sano, whose previous work includes popular titles like Attack on Titan, One Piece, and Dragon Ball Z.
Similar to the anime film, Death Stranding: Isolations will feature a brand new story, independent of the video game’s plot. It will follow a young man and woman as they embark on a journey together.
The series will feature classic, hand-drawn 2D animation. Skilled animators from the renowned Japanese studio E&H Production are currently working on bringing the story to life.
New concept art created by Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 character designer Ilya Kuvshinov was also revealed at the event, as was the synopsis: “Once, there was an explosion… Lonesome souls of the dead manifest in the physical world, reaching in search of the living.

But when these connections form, they cause a huge explosion that destroys everything on Earth – an event known as the Death Stranding. This catastrophe wipes out countries and ends civilization as we know it.
It’s honestly heartbreaking to see how disconnected everyone has become. People are just… drifting apart. But then there’s this incredible story about a porter, almost a legend, who’s traveling around carrying not just packages, but also the hopes and dreams of the people sending them. It’s like he’s trying to rebuild those connections, to remind everyone what it means to be human, and maybe, just maybe, save us all. It’s a really powerful idea.
Across North America, while Sam Bridges journeys to reconnect the country, other people are also finding ways to cope with being isolated.
We see an elderly man seeking redemption apart from the path Bridges suggests, a woman determined to ignite endless conflict, a young boy fueled by resentment towards Bridges, and a girl who finds solace in solitude.

With the world facing its potential end, everyone’s destinies and last hopes are intertwined as a new chapter in the Death Stranding story unfolds. And now, a new crisis has begun…
Kojima explained that he envisions expanding the world of Death Stranding into anime, believing the medium offers greater creative freedom. He described the upcoming anime, titled Isolations, as being “incredibly impressive” (according to The Hollywood Reporter).
