Rory McCann, famous for his role as The Hound in Game of Thrones, almost appeared in the Star Wars series Andor. Had he taken the part, it would have significantly changed the direction of the show and the broader Star Wars story.
Okay, so I was a huge Game of Thrones fan, and I loved watching Rory McCann as Sandor Clegane throughout all eight seasons. Even though the finale really bummed a lot of us out, it’s still considered one of the greatest shows ever made. Honestly, it feels like the ending became a cautionary tale – a perfect example of how not to wrap up a series people are really invested in. It definitely shaped how other shows, like The Witcher, approached their endings.
Following his work on Game of Thrones, actor Stellan Skarsgård joined the cast of Andor, a Disney+ series created by Tony Gilroy. Andor explores the backstory of Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna), detailing his life leading up to the events of Rogue One.
McCann ultimately couldn’t take on the role completely, but had he done so, it would have significantly changed the Star Wars universe.
Rory McCann wouldn’t have been able to replace Ray Stevenson in Ahsoka Season 2

In an interview with the Star Wars Sessions podcast, actor Joplin Sibtain shared that Alex McCann was initially chosen to play Brasso, a friend of Andor who appears in both seasons of the series. Unfortunately, McCann had to leave the production early because of a knee injury.
On the first day of filming, the actor playing Brasso was actually the same actor who played The Hound in Game of Thrones. They managed to film some scenes with him, but he injured his knee. Sibtain remembered that the injury happened before work, when the actor slipped on some ice and hurt his knee. The actor is 6 foot 6, while Sibtain is 6 foot 3.
He was walking with a limp, but he still went to work. After a scan, the doctor warned him that he would lose the ability to walk if he didn’t have surgery.

If Lawrence McCann hadn’t taken on the role of Brasso, he probably would have been considered to take over the role of Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka Season 2 after Ray Stevenson’s unfortunate passing in 2023.
This could have created a challenge for Star Wars, as McCann shares a similar look and commanding presence with David Stevenson, something viewers of Game of Thrones are already familiar with.
Earlier this year, McCann discussed the difficulty of continuing the story of Baylan Skoll, stating he believed it was the correct choice and that he would give it his all, hoping fans would appreciate it.
