Update (November 13)
The first big update for ARC Raiders, called North Line, is coming on November 13th at 1:30 AM Pacific Time. It adds a new area to explore called Stella Montis, but you’ll need to unlock it first! Players will team up during the ‘Breaking New Ground’ event to rebuild routes to the area and earn a special currency called Merits while they do.
Players can look forward to fresh challenges, new enemies like the Matriarch and Shredder, and updated equipment. This update starts “Staking Our Claim Phase II” and will be available until December. After that, we’ll release another update called Cold Snap.
Below, you can watch a short video showcasing the upcoming features.
Original news (November 12)
The successful launch and increasing player base of ARC Raiders haven’t slowed down Embark Studios. The game’s developers recently announced a number of updates designed to make the game more enjoyable and create a fairer economic system.
The main new addition is a better matchmaking system. Embark Studios has been quietly testing a feature that prioritizes finding matches for duos, and it’s now live for everyone.
Initially, players will compete as individuals or with full teams. After that, pairs will be matched with other pairs, and groups of three with other groups of three. The developers want to clarify that this system isn’t perfect, so you might sometimes play against teams with a different number of players.
Cheaper cosmetics and refunds for players
Embark Studios is making cosmetic items in the game store more affordable. Here’s what the developers said about the change:
We listened to what you told us and have updated our prices. Where possible, we’ve lowered them to be more affordable.
The new prices will be available starting tomorrow, Thursday the 13th, at 1:30 AM Pacific Time. If you’ve already bought something at the previous price, you’ll get a refund for the difference, which will be added to your account as tokens within the next week.
Players weren’t happy with the initial prices – some cosmetic packs cost as much as 2400 tokens, roughly $20. This felt especially unfair since ARC Raiders isn’t a free-to-play title.
Okay, so the devs just made some changes, and honestly, everyone’s loving it! I was scrolling through Reddit and it’s just post after post of people thanking them for actually listening to us. One player even said they’ve never seen a company go out of their way to not only lower the price of skins but also give everyone who already bought them a refund for the difference. It’s pretty awesome, honestly.
They really listen to the community! Huge love, wrote another player.
Raider Decks – Free and Premium, but no pay to win
Also, the developers announced some changes to the Raider deck – think of it as their take on battle passes. Currently, there’s one free deck you can earn in the game, but they plan to add paid versions later on.
Embark Studios assures, however, that no gameplay elements will be locked behind a paywall:
You can only find Gameplay Items in the free Raider Deck. We’ve included these items to help new players progress. Premium Raider Decks don’t offer any items that give players an unfair advantage – they focus on cosmetic items and features that simply make the game more convenient.
The studio promised that this is only the first of many improvements coming to ARC Raiders.
