Original news (September 12)

Fans of the Fatal Frame horror games will be happy to know that Koei Tecmo just announced a remake of Fatal Frame II during today’s Nintendo Direct.

The highly anticipated horror game, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, is scheduled to release in early 2026. It will be playable on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. You can check out the game’s spooky trailer below.

Originally released in 2003, Fatal Frame II is considered one of the strongest entries in the Fatal Frame series. The game centers around twin sisters, Mio and Mayu Amakura, who stumble upon a deserted village after chasing a strange crimson butterfly. They soon discover the village holds sinister secrets, and its ghostly inhabitants will do anything to prevent their escape.

Your primary tool for defeating ghosts is a traditional camera. While it seems outdated, it’s surprisingly effective – you weaken and capture ghosts by taking their picture at the perfect time. You’ll need film to take these shots, which you can find while exploring. You can also improve the camera’s performance by adding better lenses and filters.
