Michelle Randolph, who will star in the new Scream 7 movie, has shared that the sequel will include nods to the very first Scream film from 1996. The Scream series started with director Wes Craven and continued with three more films he directed. Since then, two additional sequels have been made, and another is planned for 2026, with original screenwriter Kevin Williamson taking on the role of director.
With the release of Scream 7 just months away, new cast member Michelle Randolph has shared a hint of what viewers can anticipate. While promoting season 2 of Landman – arriving on Paramount+ November 16th – Randolph told ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley that director Christopher Williamson intentionally included “many elements” from the original 1996 Scream film, making the new installment particularly noteworthy.
Randolph was thrilled to be part of Scream 7, particularly because Kevin Williamson was directing, as they’d worked together on previous films in the series.
While the movie Landman is set in the Texas oilfields, Scream 7 will deliver what you’d expect – lots of screaming! Though actress Courteney Cox didn’t strain her voice during filming, audiences can still anticipate plenty of scares and screams throughout the movie.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked on the new Scream film. Kevin Williamson, the creator of the original, also directed this one, and he really brought back a lot of what made the first Scream so special. It was a really amazing experience. Filming was a lot different than my last project, Landman – thankfully, I didn’t lose my voice! Though, there was still plenty of screaming involved.
The Scream series includes six films and a television show that ran for three seasons, originally airing on MTV and VH1 from 2015 to 2019.
Recent movies in the series have stirred up some trouble. For example, when Neve Campbell, a key member of the original cast, announced she wouldn’t be in Scream 4, despite a script being written with her character, Sidney Prescott, included.
After resolving some initial issues, the actress appeared in the film. However, talks for future projects stalled, and she wasn’t part of Scream VI.
Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney in Scream 7, and she’ll be joined by returning favorites Courteney Cox and David Arquette. The cast also includes Liana Liberato, Isabel May, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, and Mark Consuelos.
Jenna Ortega, known for her role in Wednesday, won’t be appearing in future Scream movies. She left the franchise after Melissa Barrera was let go.
Even though production faced some significant challenges, Scream 7 was able to move forward and added several new actors to the cast, including Randolph. Before joining the film, Randolph appeared in a few movies in the late 2010s and gained prominence for her role in the Yellowstone prequel 1923. She later continued working with Taylor Sheridan on his series Landman.
Once season two of Landman finishes in January 2026, Randolph will immediately begin promoting Scream 7. The new film will include key elements from the very first Scream movie, which should please long-time fans of the horror series.
Scream 7 will be released in theaters on Friday, February 27, 2026.
