Another Justice League Hero Appears Ready for an Absolute Universe Appearance

Everyone is captivated by the Absolute Universe – widely considered one of the greatest anthology series ever made. It all started with the huge popularity of Absolute Batman, which presented a terrifying new take on The Joker and even led to at least one follow-up series.

While many Justice League members like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash each have their own major storylines, Aquaman hasn’t yet had his moment to really surprise readers. However, that might be about to change for King Arthur Curry, the hero of Atlantis.

Kelly Thompson recently shared some exciting possibilities for a future solo Aquaman series within the DC Universe. While speaking with the Splash Pages Comic Book Club, she hinted at upcoming storylines and mentioned her plans to feature Aquaman’s iconic trident.

Look, I can’t confirm anything for sure, but he’s definitely been mentioned a lot lately. The fact that they let me include the Trident scene felt like a sign they’re at least considering it, you know? I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, but I truly believe it’s something they’re actively discussing, absolutely.

That claim strongly suggests Aquaman is a sure thing, as ‘one hundred percent’ offers no room for doubt. However, is Thompson being deliberately vague despite this strong assertion?

Aquaman Is Trying to Get His Head Above Absolute Water

Let’s have a little fun speculating, like many comic book fans do. It’s great to hear that the idea of Absolute Aquaman has been seriously discussed at DC Comics – just thinking about how dark and twisted things could get for Aquaman, and how he’d be responsible, is exciting. But when the writer says she “can’t say” if it’s actually happening, what does that really mean?

Her statement could simply mean she’s unsure if it will happen. However, it’s more exciting to think she might actually know that Absolute Aquaman is coming and is now allowed to hint at it. Fans of the Absolute Universe can only speculate about when this might happen, but at least DC Comics understands the Justice League isn’t complete without Aquaman’s involvement.

You can find the Absolute Universe collection at your local comic book store, or by subscribing to DC Universe Infinite.
