As the second season of ‘Landman’ approaches, Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Elliott, stars of the show, have been discussing the upcoming exit of co-creator Taylor Sheridan from Paramount.
Taylor Sheridan is the driving force behind Paramount’s success, having created popular shows like Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman.
It was surprising when news broke that Sheridan planned to leave his current network for NBCUniversal in 2029, leading many to wonder what would happen to his incredibly popular television shows.
Now that Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Landman’ is finishing its run on Paramount+ this Sunday, November 16th, the cast members have been talking about the show ending and Sheridan’s plans to step away.
Landman’s Billy Bob Thornton addresses Taylor Sheridan departure
Billy Bob Thornton, who stars as Tommy Norris in the series, wasn’t concerned about Taylor Sheridan leaving the show. He shared this at the premiere of Season 2, Episode 1.
According to Thornton, shows currently airing on Paramount will likely remain there, and aren’t impacted by recent changes. He added that Taylor’s contract covers future projects, and while the future is uncertain, he’s confident Taylor will succeed in whatever he does, and that his work will be authentic.
Sam Elliott will be playing Tommy’s father in the second season of Landman, and he’s confident the show’s future is secure. He told The Hollywood Reporter that Taylor Sheridan’s work will remain with Paramount, so the move won’t affect the series’ direction. He clarified that Sheridan isn’t taking any of the show’s elements with him.
He wished Sheridan all the best, and commented that the new Universal agreement seemed like a really positive development for Taylor Swift’s career. He thought it was a wonderful opportunity.
Landman star believes series “could go on and on”
As a big fan of Landman, I was really excited to hear Michelle Randolph, who plays Ainsley, thinks there’s tons of potential for the show to explore even more stories. It sounds like there’s a lot left to tell!
Rudolph explained to The Hollywood Reporter that there’s a wealth of stories and characters to explore with the show. She pointed out that the first season only covered ten days of events, meaning there’s plenty of material for many more seasons, as the show doesn’t follow a year-long timeline.
Each character has a lot of potential for development. They’re all realistically flawed, which makes them compelling and relatable to watch because it feels very human.
