Okay, so Everstone Studios’ Where Winds Meet is almost here – launching globally in just under a week! As a long-time follower, I’m seriously hyped for this one, especially since 2025 is already shaping up to be an amazing year for games. I’ve been checking it out, and the wuxia-style gameplay is incredibly addictive and just looks fantastic. We’ve been getting a lot of peeks at the RPG and action-adventure stuff from early previews, and it’s really building the hype!
After a recent gameplay reveal and a detailed look on the PlayStation blog, which both demonstrate why this game is generating so much excitement, we’ve gathered more information to help you determine if it’s a good fit for your holiday gaming list.
1. The Combat’s Better Than We Thought
The developers showed off a boss fight that was perfectly paced, highlighting a combat system designed to constantly challenge players and encourage improvement. This system ties into the game’s exploration and gear progression, but the fight demonstrated how crucial preparation is. With multi-phase bosses appearing both in dedicated arenas and throughout the world, even skilled players will be tested.
We also saw the rope dart being used, and it seems very versatile – good for attacking, defending, and controlling enemies. We’re excited to test it with dual blades to create a powerful build that quickly defeats enemies, with the rope dart keeping them at a safe distance.
2. Not All Battles Are Fought With Weapons
The mysterious person who seems connected to your fate has been identified as Nan Zhu, a famous and clever strategist from Chinese history. Finding him won’t be easy – it will require more than just fighting, and the preview suggests you’ll need to outsmart him.
This questline looks like it will be really special, with a great reward at the end. We’re excited to start playing detective and solve this mystery, and all the others to come!
3. Bosses Earn Their Keep
Beyond the main boss fight, glimpses of other battles show how the game’s bosses truly showcase its combat system. They’ll push your character builds and skills to their limits with challenging attacks. Be prepared for complex combos where a single mistimed block can turn the tide, or enemies that specifically counter your strategies, forcing you to adapt and try something new.
Honestly, the boss fights are a huge reason I’m hyped for this game – they look incredible! And I’m really hoping the massive world they’ve built adds a lot of different challenges to what already seems like a super solid combat system. It feels like those three things together could make this game truly special.
4. Qinghe’s Most Wanted
Qinghe might seem peaceful compared to Kaifeng, but don’t let that fool you. Beneath its calm surface of plains, forests, and valleys lie many secrets, dangerous people, hidden caves, and ancient ruins just waiting to be discovered. If you’re someone who likes to take your time and enjoy beautiful scenery, you’ll find plenty to explore, as the area is full of stunning locations.
Simply disable the game’s interface and start writing. You might be surprised how quickly you develop enough material for the beginning of your story, even before you officially start writing it.
5. Kaifeng’s Secrets
We were also very interested to hear about Kaifeng’s Ghost Market, which the developers hinted at but didn’t fully explain. But that’s just one part of what makes this city so impressive. The developers highlighted that Kaifeng is filled with almost 10,000 interactive characters – from people in the Recreation Room to various merchants – and they’re all aware of your choices and progress in the wuxia world.
The city feels perpetually awake, filled with people constantly searching for secrets that others are too afraid to uncover.
6. Your Reputation Matters
In Where Winds Meet, you’ll find a world of competing groups all striving for control. Your choices and how you build relationships with these groups will determine how the people see you.
I’m really excited about how exploring towns and cities might work in this game. It sounds like you’ll have to carefully decide when to fight and when to be sneaky while you’re trying to complete quests. I’m guessing your choices will matter – like, if people see you as a good guy, they’ll react differently than if you’re known as a troublemaker. Even shopkeepers might give you better deals if they like you! It definitely makes me want to play the hero and build up a good reputation.
7. Collectibles Galore
If you’re primarily interested in the game’s story and background, you’ll love exploring the world and collecting its many items. There are over 1200 artifacts of 16 different types, and they all contribute to the game’s narrative. Lore enthusiasts will have a great time discovering and documenting the game’s rich history.
The developers put a lot of effort into making the game historically accurate, while also adding creative details. They even hid recreations of ancient Chinese art as secrets within the game. This level of detail really enhances the experience, and we think it’s fantastic.
8. The Story You’re Told
The story begins with you, raised by your aunt and uncle, feeling like there’s a bigger world beyond what you know. When your family’s treasured jade pendant is stolen, you embark on a journey through Qinghe and Kaifeng to recover it. This theft draws the attention of various groups, and as you travel towards the Heroic Assemble, you uncover the mystery of the legendary “Gold-Making Vessel.”
I’m really excited to hear that the story isn’t just handed to you in this game! The developers said a big part of it comes from simply playing – exploring the world and making your own choices. It sounds like there’s a lot of hidden depth and context you uncover just by living your own adventure, which is awesome!
9. The Story You Must Discover
The world of Where Winds Meet is rich with history and hidden details about its past and the beliefs of its inhabitants. The game encourages you to piece together the story yourself by actively seeking out information – a storytelling approach the developers call ‘overt storytelling’.
I’m really excited to see where this new way of telling the story goes! I’m hoping learning more about the world’s history will make everything feel even richer and more interesting.
10. The Post-Launch Roadmap
We’ll be adding new content to the game after launch through seasonal updates, starting with a season called Blade Out. Over the next few months, players can look forward to new areas and weapons originally from the Chinese version, as well as cosmetic items available in the in-game store.
That’s just the start, and it will be exciting to see how Blade Out and future seasons add to the already vast amount of content available for players to enjoy.
11. Welcome Rewards
As a huge fan, I’m so excited to hear that PlayStation 5 players will get some awesome free skins when the game finally launches! And it’s not just us console players – PC gamers will also get a little welcome gift when they start playing, which is fantastic!

You have the freedom to make any choice, even if it means playing the villain. Just remember that every decision has consequences. The people of this land are relying on you to shape what’s to come, whether they realize it or not.
13. The Moon Grabber Is Looking Mighty Useful
If you’ve ever wished you could open chests with just your mind in an RPG, the Moon Grabber skill is for you! It’s incredibly useful, and getting it early in the game can help you quickly build the character you’ve always wanted.
This approach can also help you sidestep disagreements that might arise if you were to be more direct or confrontational.
14. A World Without End
If Qinghe and Kiafeng seem like a lot right now, the developers have even more planned for the future, including new areas to explore and regular seasonal updates with fresh content.
Based on what we’ve seen so far, Where Winds Meet has the potential to be a truly immersive and captivating RPG.
15. Learn Of The Land’s Deepest Mysteries
We were particularly impressed by how the game incorporates elements of Chinese folklore, offering epic quests rooted in myth. The characters feel legendary, and the stories are rich with detail, making us eager to begin playing and explore everything it has to offer.
We won’t reveal the secret the showcase highlighted, but finding it will be a real challenge. However, the payoff for all that effort will be well worth it.
