Elden Ring Nightreign DLC Announced, Releases December 4th

FromSoftware has revealed that the highly anticipated Elden Ring DLC, Nightreign, will be released by the end of 2025.

The new downloadable content, called “The Forsaken Hollows,” will be released on December 4th, 2025. Players who own the Deluxe Edition of the game will automatically receive it. Those with the standard edition can purchase it separately.

The Forsaken Hollows

The trailer for this downloadable content was revealed during today’s State of Play presentation, and it was the last big announcement of the event.

Although many fans thought the new downloadable content would be released in early 2026, based on information from Kadokawa’s financial reports, it’s actually coming much sooner. The release date is now set for December 4th, 2025 – less than a month away!

The trailer revealed a lot of fresh content for the game, alongside familiar elements from both Elden Ring and Dark Souls.

We’ve added several exciting new features! Players can now choose from two new playable characters, battle against two new Nightlords, and explore a brand-new Shifting Earth.

The playable characters are the Scholar and Undertaker, described as follows:

  • Scholar – A male scholar wearing garbs that call back to Liurnia’s forces in Elden Ring. Seems to specialize in thrusting swords, and his Ultimate Art seems to bind enemies’ health together.
  • Undertaker – An abbess who specializes in using one-handed hammers. Her abilities are a bit unclear right now, but she seems to power herself up by dodging attacks in the trailer.

The Nightlords include two distinct groups. One is a team of seven women, currently without a formal name, who bear a resemblance to Valkyries.

The second enemy seems to be the Dreglord, the primary villain of the downloadable content. While the trailer doesn’t show much of it, its design is reminiscent of the Dragonkin enemies found in Elden Ring.

Finally, a new area called Shifting Earth has been discovered, and it appears to lead deep underground, much like the Deeproot Depths in Elden Ring. The main difference is a huge blue crystal located in the center of this new area. Beyond that, details are still scarce.

Returning Content

The trailer revealed not only fresh content but also the return of familiar enemies from Elden Ring and Dark Souls. A standout appearance was made by Artorias from Dark Souls, who appears to be a new nighttime boss.

The trailer also showed a lot of Liurnian Knights and Messmer Soldiers. It’s not clear yet if these enemies will appear in specific new locations within the game.

The trailer also showed off the return of the Dancing Lion boss from the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. It appears this boss will have its own dedicated fighting area, which might be connected to the new Shifting Earth area.

As a fan, I was really excited to see Gladius, the Beast of Night, showing up during daytime expeditions! Usually, you only fight him as a Nightlord, so this makes me think he might now be able to invade expeditions just like the other Nightlords we already know and love in the base game. It’s a cool change and opens up some interesting possibilities!

Even so, the trailer didn’t show off any weapons or spells from the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. It’s currently unclear whether those features will be included in Nightreign, but fans are hoping they will be.

Considering the price, The Forsaken Hollows looks like it offers a good amount of new stuff. What do you think of the DLC? Were you hoping for more content, or are you happy with what we’ve seen so far?
