The latest picture from the new Spider-Man film series, titled ‘Brand New Day’, shows Zendaya wearing a hoodie, sparking debate about whether her character might sport the iconic red hair from the comics in the upcoming movie.

In terms of significance within Spider-Man’s universe, it may seem insignificant, but it’s quite substantial. So far, the character portrayed by Zendaya in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Michelle “MJ” Jones, has been a reinterpretation of Spider-Man’s romantic interest, with her initials being a nod to Mary Jane Watson from the original lore.
In the comic books, she’s known for her fiery red locks, and by emulating this style, Zendaya might be helping Marvel make her more like the traditional Mary Jane Watson, while still maintaining a contemporary interpretation of the character.
In response to the posted image, a fan commented on Reddit saying, “It looks like Zendaya is trying to hide her hair… I bet she’s switching to red,” while another user speculated, “Are they concealing her hair? There’s no doubt she’ll fully embrace the MJ redhead look.
On the platform X/Twitter, one user remarked, “I believe Zendaya is concealing her hair as she dyed it red for a more accurate portrayal of MJ, but I can’t provide evidence.” Another user added, “MJ should have red hair hidden under that hoodie.
Another observation that strengthens the theory is that Batalon appears to be donning a garment from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, often referred to as MIT.
Following the memory erasure event depicted in No Way Home, Ned and MJ secured their admission to MIT, hinting that the actor portraying Spider-Man in this scenario was indeed dressed up. (This refers to the upcoming movie titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day.)
Regarding the discussion about Zendaya’s hairstyle, someone commented, “It’s possible that Jacob’s Spiderman shirt is also part of the costume props.” Another suggested, “Since Jacob Batalon isn’t an MIT graduate like Ned Leeds, it seems more likely that his shirt is just from the wardrobe department.
