Reanimal is a new horror-adventure game from Tarsier Studios, the creators of Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares II. Players control two children as they attempt to survive and solve the secrets of a dangerous island that used to be their home. The game aims to continue Tarsier’s tradition of crafting immersive, atmospheric, and frightening horror experiences, this time with a focus on cooperative gameplay and disturbing imagery.
Reanimal is a game where you solve puzzles, sneak around, and explore a strange, unsettling world. You control a brother and sister as they journey through the remains of a ruined island, figuring out how to overcome obstacles and avoiding monsters that appear to be born from painful memories. Instead of fighting, you’ll focus on staying alive, and the strong bond between the siblings is the most important part of the game.

When will Reanimal be released?
Reanimal Trailers
Reanimal has released three trailers showcasing different parts of the game. The initial trailer introduced the two main characters and created a mysterious atmosphere with its visuals of a shadowy island. A subsequent gameplay trailer built on this by demonstrating the puzzle-solving, stealth, and teamwork players can expect, giving a clearer picture of the game’s exploration and suspenseful moments.
Okay, the new trailer really got to me! It wasn’t just about action, it really showed how much the characters are struggling and what’s at stake. We got glimpses of some beautiful but creepy new locations, and the monsters look seriously terrifying this time around. Plus, it looks like there’s a really interesting backstory connecting the two siblings to the island itself – I can’t wait to find out more!
Reanimal Platforms
Reanimal will be released on PC through Steam, as well as on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. While a specific release date isn’t available yet, the game is listed as “coming soon” on its Steam page.
Reanimal Story, Setting and Characters
In Reanimal, you control a brother and sister who return to a childhood island, only to find it changed into a scary and dangerous place. The game blends feelings of nostalgia with horror, featuring abandoned theme parks, time-capsule homes, and creatures born from past experiences. The strong bond between the siblings is central to the game, making the journey of exploration and survival deeply personal.
Reanimal offers a different kind of horror experience, focusing on the human side of fear. Unlike many horror games where you feel helpless, Reanimal emphasizes vulnerability and the bonds between people as they confront scary situations together. It’s a unique game with cooperative gameplay, a creepy and thoughtful atmosphere, and beautifully made levels, creating a story that feels like a dark fairytale you can play.
Reanimal Gameplay
You can experience the game by yourself with an AI partner, or team up with a friend online or locally. The camera changes perspectives to create a suspenseful atmosphere, reminiscent of older survival-horror titles. The developers, Tarsier, are known for their impressive visuals, and they use size and lighting to make even calm scenes feel eerie. The island is full of story details – like discarded toys and abandoned houses – that reward careful exploration and thoughtful observation, rather than rushing through.
This game focuses on avoiding conflict. Instead of shooting or fighting, you’ll rely on sneaking and escaping. The world is designed for hiding, exploring, and carefully observing your surroundings for hints. You’ll solve puzzles based on the environment, discover secret areas, and piece together the story through fragments you find. It’s a shorter, more directed experience, rather than a sprawling open world.
Reanimal Development News
During the Steam Next Fest in October 2025, a demo of Reanimal was released, giving players a look at the dark and gritty world developed by Tarsier Studios. This new game represents a significant departure from their previous titles, the Little Nightmares games. What’s most captivating so far is the feeling of exploration within Reanimal’s world.
According to Mark Delaney of TopMob, the upcoming Little Nightmares 3 – and even its predecessor – moved away from the intensely disturbing monsters featured in the original game (known as Residents). However, the Reanimal demo suggests a return to that earlier, more unsettling style. Delaney believes the demo’s creepy character designs, dark atmosphere, and pervasive sense of mystery indicate that Little Nightmares 3 will recapture the chilling feel of the first game.
The Reanimal demo showed how Tarsier is experimenting with camera angles. Previous games in the Little Nightmares series generally used a fixed, side view, only changing the angle to build suspense.
The Reanimal demo featured a much more flexible camera system. Sometimes it zoomed out for a wide view, and at other times it felt like you were looking over the character’s shoulder, explained Delany. This change in perspective allows the developers at Tarsier Studios to create more innovative puzzles and exploration elements, potentially distinguishing the game from comparisons to Little Nightmares.
