EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami reveal their hopes for KPop Demon Hunters sequel
I was absolutely thrilled when KPop Demon Hunters blew up on Netflix and even got Grammy nominations! Now, I’ve just learned from Deadline that Sony and Netflix are planning a sequel, KPop Demon Hunters 2, and it’s coming out in 2029! I can’t wait!
This animated musical features three pop singers – EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami – who provide the voices for the characters Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. The singers recently spoke with Collider about their wishes for a follow-up film, given the success of the first one worldwide.
EJAE shared her desire to highlight Korean culture further, mentioning she’d love to see more representation of traditional Korean history, music, and food. Audrey Nuna also expressed a hope to broaden the story’s audience internationally.
I’m eager to meet the actresses who filmed in various cities and discover the diverse perspectives they each contribute. The film has resonated globally, and its success has led to fascinating discussions about where fantasy ends and real life begins.
Rei Ami expressed excitement about the potential for the sequel to delve into the characters’ histories or bring back familiar faces from the original film. She specifically mentioned wanting to see how the group of girls first met, or, if not a prequel, to have Lee Byung-hun reprise his role as Gwi-ma. She’s also eager to find out who will be the villain in the next installment.
The hit series KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, was a massive success, racking up over 325 million views, a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and three Grammy nominations. The new season follows the adventures of the pop-star warrior group HUNTR/X as they venture beyond their original setting of Seoul.
