Why Star Trek Must Greenlight Scott Bakula’s Comeback Series: Star Trek United

It’s been 20 years since Star Trek: Enterprise finished, and many fans believe it’s time for a return with a new series, Star Trek: United, as proposed by Scott Bakula. Bakula played Captain Jonathan Archer in Star Trek: Enterprise for four seasons and 98 episodes between 2001 and 2005, but he hasn’t been back in the Star Trek universe since the show ended.

At the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas this August, writer and producer Michael Sussman surprised and excited fans by announcing a potential spin-off of Star Trek: Enterprise. Called Star Trek: United, the series would follow Jonathan Archer as the President of the United Federation of Planets, and Scott Bakula (who played Archer) had given his approval and was involved in the project.

Ever since the announcement of Star Trek: United, fans have been incredibly excited – it’s sparked more enthusiasm than anything since the finale of Star Trek: Picard hinted at a continuation focusing on Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and her new ship, the USS Enterprise-G, which was originally planned as Star Trek: Legacy.

Michael Sussman has developed a detailed plan for a new Star Trek series, Star Trek: United, and already pitched it to Paramount+ and Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, the team responsible for all of Star Trek’s current TV shows. Although they decided not to move forward with the project at that time, recent changes within Paramount could open the door for a second look.

David Ellison, the new CEO of Paramount Skydance, is focusing on creating new Star Trek movies and shows for Paramount+. Now is the perfect time for the company to listen to the strong fan demand and approve Star Trek: United, and here’s why.

Enterprise Actors & Characters Can Return In Star Trek: United

Fans of Star Trek: Enterprise have long hoped to see the original cast return, and Star Trek: United currently offers the most promising opportunity. So far, only Jolene Blalock has officially played T’Pol again, appearing in Star Trek: Lower Decks. Connor Trinneer provided the voice for Commander Trip Tucker in a series of unofficial short episodes called Star Trek: Very Short Treks.

Unlike actors from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager, none of the cast from Enterprise have reprised their roles in live-action. Although Michael Sussman doesn’t plan for Star Trek: United to be a complete Enterprise reunion, he hopes to include as many members of Captain Archer’s original crew as he can.

Mike Sussman has hinted that Trip Tucker, a fan favorite character from Star Trek: Enterprise, might not be gone for good. He has ideas for how actor Connor Trinneer could return in the upcoming Star Trek: United series.

Even though it’s another Star Trek origin story, Star Trek: United would explore a time period we haven’t seen much of: the late 22nd century, after the events of Star Trek: Enterprise and before Star Trek: Discovery. This is when the early Federation was at its weakest, and Star Trek fans know very little about it.

Star Trek: United Has A Unique & Compelling Story

Star Trek: United would offer a fresh take on the Star Trek universe. Though it would still feature Starfleet officers and Federation starships, the show is envisioned as a political thriller with strong family drama elements.

Michael Sussman believes President Archer’s goal in Star Trek: United is to protect the Federation – something he’s deeply invested in and has dedicated his life, both inside and outside of Starfleet, to achieving. As the relatively new Federation faces danger, Archer needs to rely on his grown children, who each hold significant positions across the galaxy.

Sussman doesn’t see Star Trek: United as a main Star Trek series. He believes it would be most effective as something different from a typical Star Trek show focused on starship exploration – and that difference would actually be a positive for Scott Bakula’s series.

For sixty years, Star Trek has consistently delivered excellent science fiction, including some of the best stories ever on TV. Now, Star Trek: United has the potential to achieve the same critical success that Star Wars found with its series Andor.

Star Trek: United Already Has Intricate World Building

The more Michael Sussman discusses his plans for a continuation of Star Trek: Enterprise, the more impressive the depth of his creative work becomes. He shares the opinion of many fans that Enterprise finished before it could fully explore key storylines, like the Romulan War and the creation of the Federation.

I’ve heard Michael Sussman is planning a really cool opening for Star Trek: United. Apparently, it’ll start with a scene originally intended for a later season of Star Trek: Enterprise – a quick look at the Romulan War. What’s even more exciting is that this scene will also introduce a really important new character who’ll be a big part of Star Trek: United.

The upcoming series, Star Trek: United, might reveal Babel – a location referenced but never shown in the original Star Trek – as the location of President Archer’s office and the Federation’s central command. The series could also depict the attack on Station Salem-One and the Federation’s defenses, which was alluded to in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and explain why the Federation later moved its headquarters to Earth.

The new fan film, Star Trek: United, has generated excitement not only among Star Trek enthusiasts but also attracted the attention of a key figure from the franchise’s history. Andrew Probert, the renowned concept artist who originally designed iconic ships like the USS Enterprise-D and the Romulan Warbird for Star Trek: The Next Generation, offered his skills to help Michael Sussman design a new starship for President Archer, tentatively named either Starfleet One or Federation One.

President Archer’s Adult Children Can Become Star Trek’s Most Interesting New Characters

Scott Bakula would co-star in Star Trek: United alongside the grown-up children of Captain Archer. These four new characters, created by Mike Sussman, have interesting histories and will be central to the show’s overall plot.

While author Dayton Ward hasn’t identified all of Jonathan Archer’s children by name, he’s shared that one works for Starfleet Intelligence, another is a diplomat, and a third is a Starfleet officer who uses his mother, Captain Erika Hernandez’s, last name instead of ‘Archer’.

Sussman revealed a surprising detail: President Archer’s youngest child is a Vulcan adopted by him and his wife. Meanwhile, Mike is being secretive about Archer’s romantic history, including who he’s married to and how many times. It’s becoming clear that the Archer family will be a complicated but important part of Star Trek: United.

Star Trek: United Will Make President Archer More Like Scott Bakula

A great addition to the character of President Jonathan Archer in Star Trek: United would be to reflect the personality of actor Scott Bakula himself. Those who have worked with Bakula on other TV shows consistently describe him as a genuinely kind, generous, and excellent person to be around.

Scott Bakula played Captain Archer in 98 episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise. While the character of Archer grew and changed throughout the series, he remained quite distinct from Bakula himself. Archer was a brave and caring leader, but he could also be impulsive and wasn’t afraid to make errors.

Years after Star Trek: Enterprise concluded, a potential new series, Star Trek: United, would depict a more seasoned and thoughtful President Jonathan Archer, resembling Scott Bakula more closely. The show’s creator, Michael Sussman, also gave Archer four grown children, mirroring the size of Scott Bakula’s actual family.

The way President Archer is starting to resemble Scott Bakula mirrors a trend seen with other Star Trek captains. Actors like Patrick Stewart (as Jean-Luc Picard) and Kate Mulgrew (as Kathryn Janeway) have increasingly influenced the personalities of the characters they play.

Star Trek Fans Want To See Scott Bakula Back As President Archer

Honestly, the biggest reason I and so many other Star Trek fans are excited about Star Trek: United is simple: we want to see Scott Bakula back as Jonathan Archer! The idea of him returning to the Star Trek universe is just incredibly appealing, and it’s what immediately made me want to support this new series. It’s a fantastic way to bring him back, and it’s a huge draw for all of us fans.

As a big Star Trek fan, I was really disappointed when Enterprise was cancelled after just four seasons. It felt like the show was finally hitting its stride, especially with Manny Coto as showrunner, and we were robbed of seeing where it could have gone. It was frustrating to see that potential go unrealized.

Viewers who recently found Star Trek: Enterprise on streaming services also feel the show was cut short at a promising point in Captain Archer’s journey.

With Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Admiral Jean-Luc Picard and Kate Mulgrew returning as Admiral Kathryn Janeway, many Star Trek enthusiasts believe it’s time for Scott Bakula to return as Jonathan Archer.

There’s also a strong hope that Star Trek: Enterprise will experience a similar revival and be appreciated as much as Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager.

Many Star Trek fans feel that Star Trek: Enterprise deserves more recognition. There’s a lot of excitement around the possibility of Scott Bakula reprising his role as President Archer in a new series called Star Trek: United. Fans would definitely support this, and it could be a fresh and innovative addition to the Star Trek universe – a concept whose time has come.
