
David Sirland, the lead producer for Battlefield, has explained how and why bots are used in the game, addressing recent misunderstandings about them.
It’s common for online shooting games to use computer-controlled players, or ‘bots,’ to populate matches. These bots appear as regular players but usually aren’t as skilled. In Battlefield 6, this practice is causing frustration, as players feel that defeating bots doesn’t feel as rewarding as winning against other people.
Everyone’s been talking about how often these things show up in the game and what triggers them. Well, one of the main developers finally stepped in to try and clear things up and put all the speculation to rest.
BF6 dev urges players not to leave bot lobbies
David Sirland explained on X (formerly Twitter) that there’s been a lot of misunderstanding about when bots show up in Battlefield 6. He clarified that they only appear under specific conditions:
Players start a lobby for a playlist, but if the pre-game phase lasts longer than three minutes, bots are added to fill the server and begin the match.
Once the game begins, you’ll be able to play with computer-controlled opponents instead of waiting for other players. If other people in your area are looking for a game on the same playlist, they’ll join your server. For every real player who joins, one bot will be removed.
