After KJ Apa, one of the show’s stars, discussed on-set romances common in teen dramas, people began to speculate about relationships among the Riverdale cast. Now, Madelaine Petsch, Apa’s co-star, has responded to those rumors, stating that she doesn’t confirm them.
KJ Apa discussed relationships on the set of his teen drama in an interview with EW. While he stated he never dated a co-star, he openly admitted that actors often become intimate with each other. Initially, he seemed to be speaking generally about the industry, but when asked specifically about the Vancouver set, Apa confirmed that casual relationships happened, saying it was a common occurrence on set.
During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Madelaine Petsch, known for her role as Cheryl Blossom, offered a different viewpoint regarding KJ Apa’s statements. She specifically stated, “I don’t claim that.”
I recently read an article that basically said everyone was having affairs, and I immediately thought, ‘That’s not true for me. I definitely wasn’t involved in anything like that.’
I completely understand why the actor who plays Sightless was so shocked and upset. Everyone’s time on Riverdale was different, and while she can’t speak for others, she was adamant that she avoided all physical contact with her co-stars.
It’s unclear if the actors from Riverdale ever dated each other, but it’s definitely happened on other shows before. For example, on The OC, Mischa Barton revealed she dated Ben McKenzie, who played her love interest on screen, and Rachel Bilson dated Adam Brody.
Madelaine Petsch shared that she likes to keep her personal life separate from her work, and she credits advice from her former co-star, Cole Sprouse, for helping her with that.
I keep my personal and professional life separate, so I’ve never dated a co-worker. It’s funny, actually, because Cole Sprouse gave me advice right at the beginning of the show. He told me specifically not to get involved with anyone I worked with, and I definitely took that to heart!
It’s ironic that Cole Sprouse said that, given his relationship with Lili Reinhart, who played his love interest, Betty, on Riverdale from 2018 to 2020. It seems he didn’t practice what he preached.
Besides Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes and Charles Melton were another couple who dated publicly after appearing on Riverdale, though their relationship lasted only about a year in 2018 and 2019. It’s difficult to say for sure if other cast members were involved romantically, but Madelaine Petsch has stated clearly that she never dated anyone from the show.
