When Is ‘One Battle After Another’ Streaming on HBO Max?

After a strong initial buzz, interest in seeing One Battle After Another in cinemas has waned, and many viewers are now eager to know when they can watch it at home. The film, which came out in 2025, earned great reviews and sparked some debate, and it’s expected to be in the running for major awards. Plus, it’s a standout work from acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson. Good news: Warner Bros. has announced it will be available digitally on November 20th, with 4K and Blu-ray versions arriving in January.

I’m really excited about the new Leonardo DiCaprio film, One Battle After Another, and I’ve been checking for when it’ll be available to stream. While there’s no official date yet, Warner Bros. usually brings their movies to HBO Max pretty quickly. If their past releases are anything to go by, I’m guessing we’ll be able to watch it around December 12th. I’m also really intrigued by Chase Infiniti, the new actor starring alongside DiCaprio!

‘One Battle After Another’ Should Come to HBO Max in December

Warner Bros. Pictures

Warner Bros. has generally released its movies on HBO Max about 77 days after they hit theaters. We’ve seen this with films like A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Final Destination Bloodlines, and Weapons. If the new film, One Battle After Another, follows this pattern, it’s likely to be available on HBO Max around December 12th, since it premiered in theaters on September 26th. However, release dates can sometimes vary by a week, as seen with the film Superman.

You’ll have multiple ways to watch Anderson’s new film, One Battle After Another. It will be available to buy digitally on platforms like Fandango at Home, Apple TV, and Prime Video starting November 20th for $25, with rental options coming later. A 4K Blu-ray version will be released next year, and physical copies – including 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD – will be available for pre-order starting January 20, 2026.

Releasing the film around these dates would be ideal for Warner Bros. to promote it for awards season. Golden Globe nominations come out on December 8th, with the awards show on January 11, 2026. Oscar nominations follow on January 22, 2026, and the Oscars air on March 15, 2026. A winter release on streaming would give awards voters plenty of time to watch the film and consider it for nominations, while also building excitement among general audiences.

Why ‘One Battle After Another’ Is a Major Awards Contender

Warner Bros.

I’m really hoping One Battle After Another gets some momentum as awards season heats up – it truly feels like an Oscar contender. The story grabbed me from the start; it’s about a father, who used to be a revolutionary, and his daughter as they’re desperately trying to escape a ruthless military colonel obsessed with getting revenge. It’s a beautifully crafted film, really keeps you hooked, and honestly, it had me laughing in places I didn’t expect. What makes it even more impactful, especially right now, is that the villain is connected to a secret group of white supremacists, which adds a layer of chilling relevance.

As a total film buff, I have to say the cast in this movie is phenomenal – seriously, so many of them could get nominated for awards! Leonardo DiCaprio is, of course, fantastic, but everyone else holds their own against him. Chase Infiniti, making her debut, is a revelation as his daughter. And Sean Penn? He fully embodies the over-the-top villain, Colonel Lockjaw – it’s really something. The supporting cast – Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor – are all amazing as revolutionaries, but each brings such a unique energy. Del Toro provides the comic relief, Taylor is fiercely intense, and Hall plays a more compassionate character. It’s a really well-rounded group.

The film might have a good chance at the Oscars, in part because its director, Paul Thomas Anderson, has never won one despite being nominated eleven times. Many believe this film, One Battle After Another, could finally earn him the award, and early reactions suggest it’s among his best work. He’s potentially up for three Oscars: Best Picture (as a producer), Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. However, the film is likely to compete with Hamnet in all three of those categories. Ultimately, this feels like Anderson’s best opportunity to receive the recognition he’s earned.
