Jake Paul criticized Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis after their planned exhibition fight was canceled. The cancellation followed a lawsuit filed against Davis by his former partner.
The announcement of a fight between Jake Paul and WBA lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis surprised many in the boxing world. Unlike Mike Tyson, Davis is currently at the peak of his career and is an active, consistent fighter.
The fight was originally scheduled for November 14th in Atlanta, but it has been relocated to Miami, Florida.
The project was cancelled after Courtney Rossel, Davis’s former girlfriend, filed a lawsuit alleging he physically assaulted and unlawfully detained her, and caused her emotional distress.
Jake Paul hits out at Gervonta Davis over cancelled fight
Jake reacted angrily to the cancellation, which happened with less than two weeks’ notice. He called Gervonta Davis “an actual walking human piece of garbage” and said working with him was “an absolute nightmare” in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
I didn’t want to give this abuser any more attention or money by letting him fight on my platform. My company supports women, and I regret this situation, especially for the fighters on the undercard, my team at MVP, and everyone who worked so hard to prepare for this event – people who missed time with their families for nothing, because of his unacceptable behavior.
Jake ended his message by saying he’s moving on to his next challenge and is ready to fight anyone, anywhere, at any time.
Gervonta Davis is incredibly difficult to work with. He consistently displays unprofessional behavior, makes strange demands, and is often hours late for commitments. This is on top of his multiple arrests and the resulting legal issues. Supporting him is problematic given this pattern of behavior.

After the fight was called off, Jake’s company, Most Valuable Promotions, stated that they still intend for Jake to be the main event of a boxing match streamed on Netflix before the year is over.
Reports suggest they’ve contacted retired boxer Andre Ward, a former light heavyweight champion, as a potential replacement for Davis. Ward, now 41, left boxing in 2017 with a perfect record and has worked as a commentator for major fights since then.
Ryan Garcia has also been mentioned as a possible replacement.
