In addition to the introduction of Elden Ring Nightreign’s unending Dark of Night mode, the recent update also incorporates numerous improvements and repairs. Among these changes are an overdue modification to the holy damage icon and an adjustment to how players will be affected by Night’s Tide damage.
The updated version of the notes indicates an enhancement to the damage inflicted by the Night’s Tide following the defeat of the second-night boss. While the specific amount of increase isn’t detailed, my personal observation suggests it’s quite substantial.
In one of my recent Deep of Night expeditions, I chose to explore the lethal nature of the Night Tide. On the second day, as my teammates moved towards the boss arena amidst the gloop, I instead opted to head towards a nearby Site of Grace within the Night Tide. It was just a stone’s throw from the safety zone, but unfortunately, I didn’t manage to reach it.
At that time, my health reserve wasn’t as substantial as it potentially could have been due to being at level 12 and not having accumulated numerous HP enhancement perks yet. In a blink of an eye, the Night Tide managed to reduce a fifth of my health. To add insult to injury, during my subsequent venture into the Night Tide to retrieve my lost runes, I misjudged my path and attempted to reach a Site of Grace, believing it would restore both my health and consumables-to no avail. Unfortunately, all the Sites of Grace caught within the Night Tide have proven unhelpful so far. This situation might be due to a bug since I haven’t noticed any updates related to this issue in the patch notes. However, navigating through the Night on the second day with the aid of Sites of Grace now seems almost impossible.
It required several attempts to recover my misplaced runes and bring them to a secure location for collection. My teammates, unsurprisingly, weren’t pleased with the length of time taken for this seemingly foolish experiment. Upon arriving at the Nightlord’s gate, they both sighed in disapproval at me.
In Nightreign, it’s important to appreciate what you’ve got rather than focusing solely on reaching level 15 before battling the Nightlord. For instance, you might find yourself currently at level 11 after encountering the second end-of-day boss, instead of your desired level 15. Perhaps a fight took longer than anticipated, or one of your Recluses decided to explore every Mage Tower on the map, momentarily leaving your team.
Some gamers might brace themselves and venture into the sludge, prepared to deal with the fallout of their decisions, while others are less forgiving in such situations. In these instances, farming for third-day runes is quite prevalent. Once, I waited 15 minutes for my other two teammates as they attempted – unsuccessfully – to slay the dragon located south of Noklateo’s map, following our defeat of the second-day boss. This tactic seemed to be favored by players who were eager to accumulate more runes and stand a chance at acquiring an additional useful weapon. However, this approach will no longer be feasible.
I must admit, I’m not really disappointed to announce this news. To be honest, I’ve never been fond of exploring the Night Tide after the second day-it always felt a bit too risky for my taste. Unfortunately, this means that players will have to make do with the runes they currently have following the second day, or come up with an intricate workaround, which I’m sure dedicated Nightreign players are capable of finding.
