Jamie Lee Curtis Wishes To Revive Cancelled Sequel To James Cameron’s $378M Action Movie, But There’s A Problem

Jamie Lee Curtis would like to make another movie sequel, but there’s a major hurdle. The 1994 film, directed by James Cameron, starred Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger as a spy whose world is turned upside down when he begins to suspect his wife is unfaithful.

Although fans still love the movie True Lies, a sequel hasn’t been made, but Jamie Lee Curtis hasn’t given up hope. After returning to her roles in Halloween and Freaky Friday, the actress says she’d gladly play Helen Tasker again. However, Curtis doesn’t think a sequel is likely unless James Cameron is involved. See what she had to say below.

I always wanted to make another ‘True Lies’ movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it doesn’t seem likely. It would really only work if James Cameron wrote the script, because we wouldn’t want to do it without him. ‘True Lies’ was a film that had a huge impact on my life.

I’m a huge James Cameron fan, and it’s amazing how much he’s juggling! Right now, he’s deep into the Avatar world with the next movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, coming up. But that’s not all – he’s also planning to direct a film based on Ghosts of Hiroshima, which sounds incredibly powerful. And if that wasn’t enough, he’s also working on the script for Terminator 7, and from what I’ve heard, it’s going to really explore the themes of artificial intelligence. It’s great to see him continuing to take on such ambitious projects beyond Avatar 4 and 5!

James Cameron, the director of Titanic, has discussed the possibility of a True Lies 2 several times over the years, with his ideas changing. A sequel seemed likely in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but Cameron decided against it after the 9/11 attacks.

Just before the 2009 release of Avatar, James Cameron briefly discussed a potential True Lies 2 with a fan at San Diego Comic-Con. According to Den of Geek, Cameron explained that Arnold Schwarzenegger was busy serving as Governor of California, but left the door open for a sequel, saying, “Who knows after that.”

It’s been 16 years since Arnold Schwarzenegger left office, and honestly, I’m still waiting for a new True Lies movie! They did try a TV show in 2023, but it was sadly cancelled after just one season, which was a real disappointment.

I loved the original True Lies – it did so well back in ’94, earning almost $380 million and getting good reviews! But honestly, it doesn’t look like Arnold, Jamie, and James Cameron are planning to make another one, which is a real shame. Still, they’re all super busy with other projects, so we’ll definitely be seeing more great work from each of them in the future.

It’s clear that True Lies was a significant and fun film for Curtis. While a sequel would require a lot of things to fall into place, she’d enthusiastically return to play Helen Tasker alongside Harry in another adventure.
