How to Make it Rain in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Pokémon Legends: Z-A features changing weather conditions while you’re exploring Lumiose City. The weather won’t always cooperate with what you’d prefer, and rain, in particular, can be unpredictable.

Lumiose City doesn’t get much rain, but it’s important for evolving certain Pokémon. If it doesn’t rain, you won’t be able to finish collecting all the Pokémon in your Pokédex and will miss out on getting some strong team members.

Fortunately, Pokémon that evolve during rain can’t Mega Evolve. Now, let’s find out how to make it rain in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

How to Make it Rain in Lumiose City

In Lumiose City, you can change the weather by sitting on one of the benches found throughout the city. This lets you advance time, switching between daytime, when you can explore the Wild Zones, and nighttime, when you can challenge trainers in the Battle Zone.

Every time day turns to night, or night to day, you’ll see a short video showing the change. This also refreshes the game world and brings new weather.

This seems to be the best way to change the weather and make it rain in the game, but keep in mind that the weather is random. It might take a while! We usually had to try about 10 times to get rain during testing, though some players have reported needing to try 20 or 30 times.

The game also includes optional side quests that can cause it to rain. For example, completing side mission 64, called “Let it Rain, Let it Pour,” will let you wait until the weather changes and it starts to rain.

Okay, so here’s the thing – the rain actually stops as soon as you finish the battle with that trainer during the side quest. I guess you could try using this to get rain to pop up so you can evolve your Pokémon, but honestly, it’s super unreliable. Don’t count on it working every time!

What is the Rain for in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Similar to other Pokémon games, rain plays a role in battles. As you learned in a recent side quest, rain makes your Pokémon’s Water-type attacks stronger.

When it’s raining, water-type attacks become stronger, but fire-type attacks become weaker. In past Pokémon games, rain ensured that moves like Thunder and Hurricane always hit their target. However, in Legends: Z-A, rain only makes those moves more likely to hit – it doesn’t guarantee it.

Certain Pokémon can only appear and evolve when it’s raining. For example, Sliggoo needs rain to evolve into Goodra, a strong Dragon-type Pokémon. While Goodra is powerful, it can’t be mega-evolved.

Plus, Goomy only appears when it’s raining. You can usually find it in the sewers of Bleu Sector 5 during a rain shower. However, the rain doesn’t last long, so you’ll need to be fast to find one!

You can evolve Sliggoo during that side quest, but it’s better to just wait for it to rain – that’s the more reliable way to do it.
