A photographer in Spain recently captured an incredible image of a white Iberian Lynx, a remarkably rare animal thought to be the first of its kind ever seen in the wild. The photo is quickly spreading online.
Ángel Hidalgo enjoys taking photos of nature as a hobby, but he recently gained attention when he filmed an incredibly rare wild cat. It seems nature itself wanted to showcase his work!
While photographing in the mountains of southern Spain, Hidalgo spotted a remarkable animal: an Iberian Lynx with a rare genetic condition called leucism, which causes a loss of color in its fur, skin, and feathers.
Unlike albinism, which causes a complete lack of pigment, this lynx, named Ángel, doesn’t have a total loss of color. Instead of red eyes, Ángel has striking snow-white fur and intensely yellow eyes that appear to look directly at anyone viewing its photo.
Okay, so this is incredible! A Spanish photographer thinks he’s spotted a white Iberian lynx – apparently the first time ever! He’s not saying exactly where he saw it, though, which is totally understandable. He wants to keep the lynx safe and doesn’t want anyone bothering it, and I completely respect that. It’s awesome to hear about these rare animals doing well, and even more awesome that someone’s thinking about protecting it.

Rare white lynx has viewers convinced it’s not of this world
The photographer discovered a lynx while checking the remote cameras he’d placed in the mountains. Amazed by the sighting, he immediately went to try and photograph the animal directly.
He shared on Instagram that after that moment, he became completely dedicated to achieving his goal. He explained that he needed to experience this amazing thing firsthand. Despite trying for hours, days, weeks, and even months without success, and feeling discouraged many times, he didn’t give up.
After a long search, Ángel finally saw the pale, almost white, lynx on a rainy morning of October 22nd.
He described seeing a bright, white shape appear far away. He was so shocked that he froze, unable to process what he was witnessing.
I was incredibly lucky to see this beautiful lynx in the wild. It was a truly unforgettable experience that reminded me how important it is to protect nature and wildlife.

A video of a lynx is quickly spreading online, and people are reacting in surprising ways. Many are playfully suggesting it’s a mystical being or a sign from the past. Others are so amazed by its seemingly intelligent and human-like behavior that they’re questioning if it’s even a real animal.
For Ángel, this opportunity presents a moment to spread the word about wildlife conservation.
He expressed hope that sharing his experiences would encourage others to value and safeguard the world’s natural beauty.
The Iberian Lynx lives only in Spain and Portugal. Though it’s no longer considered endangered, it’s still listed as vulnerable, meaning its population is at risk. This particular white lynx is incredibly rare – it’s thought to be the only one of its kind ever seen in the wild.
A recent truck accident in Mississippi released several lab monkeys, quickly becoming a popular story online. The truck was carrying the monkeys when it crashed, allowing them to escape.
