Apparently, the estate of Michael Crichton, the brilliant mind behind ER, is actually suing HBO, claiming their show ripped off ideas from ER. It’s a real legal battle brewing, and honestly, it’s a bit sad to see the creator of such a groundbreaking show’s legacy involved in something like this.
The medical drama ER aired for 15 seasons, from 1994 to 2009, totaling 331 episodes. The Pitt, starring Noah Wyle, launched in January 2025 and quickly became a hit, winning multiple Emmy Awards, including for Outstanding Drama Series. According to reports, Warner Bros. TV has denied accusations that The Pitt is a copy of ER.
In their initial legal document, WBTV, along with creators like Wyle and John Wells, argued that there was no proof The Pitt was created by copying or using elements from ER. Therefore, they claimed it wasn’t a ‘derivative’ work of ER, regardless of the legal definition of a derivative work.
