Despite receiving overwhelmingly negative reviews, the recent remake of the 1994 cult classic action film, The Crow, is gaining a surprising amount of attention – people are finding it enjoyably bad. It’s been 31 years since Brandon Lee famously starred in the original The Crow, a film tragically marked by his death during production. Lionsgate attempted to revive the gothic atmosphere of the original in 2024 with a remake, but it failed to impress at the box office and with audiences. Now, for those who didn’t want to pay to see it, the remake is available to stream for free.
The new version of The Crow is now available to watch on Tubi, and it’s proving to be a hit! Despite not drawing large theater crowds, the film is currently the eighth most popular movie on the free streaming service. Directed by Rupert Sanders with a screenplay by Zach Baylin and William Josef Schneider, the remake stars Bill Skarsgård as Eric, a man who gains supernatural abilities to avenge the murder of his beloved, Shelly (played by FKA twigs). Here’s what the movie is about:
Eric and Shelly, deeply in love, are tragically killed when a dark secret from Shelly’s past resurfaces. Determined to save the woman he loves, Eric makes a deal: he’ll sacrifice himself for a chance at revenge. He embarks on a violent quest to find those responsible, traveling between the worlds of the living and the dead to deliver justice.
The remake of The Crow performed far worse than expected. Lionsgate hoped it would be a big hit, particularly after their previous film, Borderlands, didn’t make much money. However, The Crow only earned $24 million in theaters, despite costing around $50 million to make. Interestingly, the original The Crow, which wasn’t initially considered a success and later gained a cult following, still made over $50 million (not accounting for inflation).
‘The Crow’ Remake Was Panned by Viewers and Critics

Lionsgate
The recent remake of The Crow wasn’t successful with either critics or at the box office. Critics overwhelmingly disliked the film, giving it a low 22% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with many awarding it only one out of five stars. While the audience score of 62% seems better, a closer look reveals that most positive reviews only give the film around three stars – it didn’t receive a lot of top ratings.
One viewer called the new Crow remake a “so bad it’s good” movie, similar to films like Madame Web or The Room. However, not everyone found it enjoyable. Another user strongly criticized it, saying the filmmakers clearly didn’t understand or respect the original film, and called the remake a complete disaster in comparison.
