Big news for gamers today: two incredibly popular games, Balatro and Vampire Survivors, are teaming up! Announced this morning, the collaboration adds new content to Vampire Survivors, letting players control the beloved character Jimbo in a Balatro-themed area called the Ante Chamber. The update is available now on most platforms, and it’s free! Nintendo Switch and Epic Games Store players will have to wait until October 31st to join the fun.
Gaming’s most addictive duo has officially launched a collaboration
The games Balatro and Vampire Survivors have had a huge impact on game development recently. Both were initially created by single developers and became surprisingly popular. Balatro even received a Game of the Year nomination in 2024, competing with major titles like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Now, we’re seeing a lot of new games that borrow ideas from these titles – either roguelikes inspired by Balatro, or ‘survivors-like’ games. This new style of game is quickly becoming a genre of its own, and people are already referring to it with terms similar to ‘Metroidvania’ or ‘souls-like’.
The new area shown in the trailer, called the Ante Chamber, is a fun nod to the ‘antes’ mechanic from the card game Balatro. Like in Vampire Survivors, the gameplay looks incredibly hectic, with tons of enemies attacking you while you use various powers, skills, and projectiles to defend yourself. It seems some of the special Joker cards from Balatro will also appear. For instance, the Cavendish card – which features a banana – is shown unlocking a power that launches bananas in every direction.
Just a heads-up: check in with your friends who enjoy roguelike games over the next few days! This new collaboration could keep them playing for hours. The trailer also hints at two more updates coming to Vampire Survivors soon. This Balatro update is the fifth major one, and the trailer ends with a message suggesting the next reveal is coming very soon – they say “See you soon…”
