Everything we know about Destiny 2: Renegades – Star Wars weapons & armor, Tharsis, more

In 2025, Renegades serves as the second significant expansion for Destiny 2. However, for this specific content release, developer Bungie is attempting a slightly new approach.

In collaboration with Lucasfilm, the developers of the looter shooter game have created an expansion inspired by the Star Wars universe. Instead of forcing in characters like Stormtroopers, Sith Lords, and Jedi, Bungie has marketed Renegades as a tribute to this distant galaxy from the Star Wars saga.

In simple terms, this implies that the Renegades will incorporate elements such as weapons, equipment, adversaries, and settings from the Disney franchise, but the DLC’s background, narrative, and characters will remain rooted within the Destiny universe.

On September 9, Bungie unveiled a wealth of fresh details about the Renegades in their latest video presentation. Let’s dive into an analysis of all the exciting revelations.

Destiny 2: Renegades release date

On Tuesday, December 2nd, Renegades will be launched for Destiny 2 on all platforms. As expected, this launch coincides with the game’s weekly reset, so you’ll have until then to complete the current Ash & Iron Rewards Pass before it gets updated.

Story & Trailers

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Bungie’s September 9 reveal gave us a sneak peek into what lies ahead for Guardians, starting from December. The spotlight is back on Tharsis Junction, an abandoned outpost nestled deep in the Martian Meridian Desert, where our exciting journey continues!

Over time, as the Vanguard began to deem it insignificant, this place transformed into a den of iniquity, drawing in a diverse assortment of criminals who now find refuge within its chaotic and rule-free frontiers.

In this refreshing, Star Wars-themed hub, modeled after the iconic Mos Eisley Cantina from A New Hope, will serve as the primary gathering spot for players. It’s here where they might engage in diverse activities such as accepting quests, claiming bounties, and responding to urgent requests from the local inhabitants.

Although all aspects of the story haven’t been disclosed yet, Bungie has shared that a new Cabal faction, with armor resembling Stormtrooper outfits, will be a significant enemy force. Furthermore, it appears this alien empire is building new war machines, one of which looks strikingly like an AT-ST. Check out the video below for more details.

Star Wars-themed weapons & armor

Bungie demonstrated gameplay featuring Warlocks and Hunters wielding sword-like weapons reminiscent of Lightsabers from Star Wars, and a sidearm resembling the famous blaster carried by Han Solo.

It’s uncertain how players can obtain a personal Lightsaber in the game, but Bungie hinted that Guardians might be able to customize their blades according to their preferences. However, it’s unclear whether this customization will be part of Destiny 2’s current crafting system or if a new system will be introduced for this purpose.

New features

As a gaming enthusiast, I can say that Renegades seems to have a progression system similar to The Edge of Fate, but unique in its own right. During the recent showcase, they demonstrated some cool features like summoning aerial bombardments and vehicle assistance, which I’m really looking forward to trying out for myself.

The exact number of special abilities that will be accessible at launch is yet unknown, but based on the interface shown below, it seems there’ll be numerous chances to carefully select and customize a personal arsenal for combating the criminal underworld.

As of now, that’s all the information available on Destiny 2: Renegades, but according to Bungie, there’s lots more to be revealed yet.

We’ll continuously revise this guide as new information becomes available. For now, ensure that your current loadout for both PvE and PvP encounters in Ash & Iron remains optimized based on our list of top-tier weapons.
