While often called a farming RPG, Stardew Valley doesn’t heavily focus on role-playing game features. A modder known as Aedenthorn addressed this by creating an interesting mod called Stardew RPG.
This modification works in several ways. Primarily, it introduces character stats – six in total:
- Strength.
- Stamina.
- Dexterity.
- Intelligence.
- Wisdom.
- Charisma.
The most important element of the mod are characters stats and ability to upgrade them.
These stats each impact different parts of your character’s experience. For instance, Charisma influences your success with romance, how much things cost when you shop, and the benefits you get from friends. Strength, on the other hand, controls how well you fight and how quickly you can do physical tasks, like chopping wood.
This mod adds ways to improve your character’s abilities and puts restrictions on items, meaning you’ll need to level up to use them effectively. It also includes a permadeath feature, so when your character dies, that’s it – game over!
One potentially divisive design choice is that the mod allows permadeath, but thankfully, it works seamlessly with the Generic Mod Config Menu, letting players easily turn it off and customize almost every aspect of the mod. The creator, Aedenthorn, also encourages other modders to build upon his work, which means we might see even more RPG-style features added in the future.
