Fumi Games and Playside Studios have announced that their first-person shooter, Mouse: P.I. For Hire, will be released soon. The game features a classic animation style inspired by early Disney cartoons, but it’s designed for mature audiences—it’s definitely not a family-friendly experience.
Today, we got a new trailer announcing the game’s release date after a recent delay.
Mouse: P.I. For Hire Lets You Shoot Enemies As Mickey Mouse
The main character is heavily inspired by Disney’s Mickey Mouse, particularly the version from the classic short Steamboat Willie now that it’s free for anyone to use. Since we’ll likely never see Mickey with a weapon, this is the closest we’ll get – perhaps second to a keyblade! If you’ve ever wished Mickey could take action against those who annoy him, Mouse: P.I. For Hire lets you experience that fantasy.
The game, Mouse: P.I. For Hire, will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC starting March 19, 2026, so you’ll need to wait a few months to play it.
We previously announced in June that Troy Baker, known for his roles in games like The Last of Us and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, will be the voice of the game’s main character, Jack Pepper, and we’re happy to confirm that’s still the plan.
In the game, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, you’ll enter a dangerous world hidden within the city of Mouseburg. Beneath the surface, grimy gangs and corrupt police officers operate, and you play as Jack Pepper, a private investigator tasked with solving a complicated case involving corruption, kidnapping, and murder. Something’s definitely wrong in Mouseburg, and it’s more than just the smell of old cheese!
Here’s a rundown of the main features of this unique, animated first-person shooter, taken directly from the official announcement:
- Black and white, hand-drawn rubber hose animation, inspired by cartoons of the 1930s
- Fast-paced FPS combat, where constant movement is key
- A thrilling single-player campaign that unravels a complex web of crime and corruption
- Over 20 noir-infused levels, teeming with mice, rats and shrews
- Fully-loaded arsenal of over a dozen weapons and equipment – with a cartoon twist
- Devastating consumable power-ups, capable of turning the tide of any battle
- Unlockable movement abilities and Metroidvania-inspired level traversal
- Original jazz soundtrack, featuring a big band orchestral ensemble
The game’s art style is reminiscent of Cuphead, a truly standout indie title. The big question is: can Will Mouse: P.I. For Hire achieve the same level of success without simply relying on its impressive animation? We’re hoping it can!
Mouse: P.I For Hire releases March 19, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
