Before Battlefield 6 came out, a lot of us were really hoping the character skins would feel more realistic and fit the serious war setting, especially when compared to what Call of Duty was doing. When they finally showed off the first season’s skins, it caused a big reaction – let’s just say fans had a lot to say about them!
Criticism of skins
Currently, the Battlefield 6 subreddit is filled with players expressing their disappointment with the new skins. Many are saying the skins are too bright and over-the-top, and don’t fit the game’s overall look and feel.
It’s especially frustrating because EA DICE had said Battlefield 6 would be realistic and avoid being over-the-top. While the new character outfits aren’t as silly as those in Fortnite, many players already feel let down by the developers.
Weren’t we promised more realistic character skins – the kind soldiers would actually wear in combat? It seems like Season 1 is going in a completely different direction, with bright, colorful designs that make it hard to tell teams apart. It’s starting to look more like a paintball game than a serious military simulation.
Because of this, many players are vocal about their disappointment, hoping the developers will listen. They believe that since similar cosmetic items have been released before, Electronic Arts will likely continue to offer them with each new season.
If players don’t react negatively to garish, brightly colored character designs, the game will keep introducing even more extreme styles. This trend will continue until the overall visual quality suffers. We’ve seen this happen repeatedly in similar online games over the past decade – it’s a predictable pattern.
Some players are planning to take their protest right into the game itself.

Many players appreciate well-made character skins and often suggest that designers look to Battlefield 1 for inspiration. In that game, each side had skins with consistent colors, which made it easier to quickly identify friend from foe.
We’re hoping the developers of Battlefield 6 will listen to player feedback and offer some reassurance. They’ve been really responsive to the community so far, consistently keeping everyone updated. It remains to be seen if they’ll continue that approach with this particular issue.
