The NBA 2K team recently ran a season-long simulation for NBA 2K26, and it predicts the Oklahoma City Thunder will win the championship for the second year in a row. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is projected to be named both the regular season and Finals MVP. Let’s take a closer look at the simulation results.

The official NBA 2K team’s simulation for the 2026 season predicts the Oklahoma City Thunder will win the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks. The simulation doesn’t detail the series score or individual game outcomes, but Thunder fans are likely to be thrilled with the championship win.
Okay, so I know how both teams actually got to the Finals. The Thunder had a tough series against the Nuggets, but they finally took it in seven games. And on the other side, the Knicks beat the Cavaliers in six – pretty solid performance from them too!
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued his dominant performance by winning the Finals MVP award, adding to his second consecutive Regular Season MVP title. This makes him the first player since LeBron James in 2012-2013 to win MVP awards in both the regular season and the playoffs in back-to-back years.
Even though this is just a simulation, the results aren’t surprising. The Thunder still have a very deep and talented team. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander gets a lot of attention, but players like Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, and Lu Dort are also key contributors.
The Oklahoma City Thunder’s season truly kicked off last night with a hard-fought double-overtime win against the Houston Rockets. Despite a strong effort from Houston – and a celebratory night unveiling newly signed star Kevin Durant – a late foul in the second overtime proved to be the difference for the Thunder.
The NBA season is just getting started, so the Oklahoma City Thunder have a long way to go before they can consider repeating as a championship contender. Their main focus right now is simply staying healthy, winning games, and making it into the playoffs.
We’re excited to share the final results of this simulation when the season ends. Plus, don’t forget to follow our simulation series during the playoffs – we’ll cover every round!
