Battlefield Studios has fixed a problem in the Battlefield 6 Portal mode that allowed players to unfairly gain experience points. Now, players will need to earn unlocks like weapon attachments and gadgets by playing the game as intended – with other players.
Battlefield Studios has changed how rewards work in Battlefield 6. Playing in Portal lobbies with bots turned on will no longer give you Mastery XP or help you finish challenges. You can still earn regular career XP and get a 150% bonus for finishing matches in bot lobbies. If you want to earn Mastery XP and make progress on challenges, you’ll need to play in Portal lobbies without bots.
Battlefield Studios announced last week that they’ve found many player-created servers in Battlefield Portal were mainly used to quickly gain experience points, boost player statistics, and unlock rewards by defeating bots. While they understand the appeal of doing this, it’s making it difficult for players who want a more traditional Battlefield experience to find those games.
Battlefield Studios wants to focus on letting players create their own unique experiences and connect with each other, while still encouraging customization and innovation.
Even though players have stopped using XP farms, the team at Battlefield Studios is still addressing the reasons why people felt they needed to use them. Last week, they updated the game to give more XP for finishing matches and completing daily challenges. They also made it easier to unlock weapon upgrades by reducing the amount of XP required for the first 20 ranks. Additionally, some unlock requirements that previously needed high career ranks have been lowered, making them achievable much earlier in the game.
Battlefield Studios is also planning further improvements to how players advance in the game. They’ve acknowledged player frustration with the current challenges and are looking into ways to fix them, but it will take time to create, test, and release these updates.
Battlefield 6 had a record-breaking launch, selling over 7 million copies in its first week and reaching over 747,000 concurrent players on Steam. The first season of content for the game will arrive on October 28th, bringing new maps, weapons, and other additions.
There’s also been discussion about the new Battlefield game not properly recognizing the contributions of developers who worked on the campaign at Ridgeline Games before the studio closed last year. Marcus Lehto, the former head of Ridgeline Games, shared on LinkedIn that his team played a key role in building the game’s foundation and that everyone involved deserves to be credited for their work.
