Simpsons: Hit & Run Designer Loves Fan-Made Futurama Re-Skin

For the past four years, a team led by Thomas Donofri has been dedicatedly working on a mod that reimagines The Simpsons: Hit & Run as a Futurama game. The first playable demo of Futurama: Hit & Run is now available, and it’s been given the thumbs-up by Joe McGinn, who was the lead designer on the original game.

The demo’s launch trailer came out earlier this week and immediately impressed one viewer, McGinn. He shared his excitement in a YouTube comment, simply writing, “This looks awesome! I want to play it.”

You can download the demo for free through the links in the YouTube description, but you’ll need to own a PC copy of The Simpsons: Hit & Run to play it. The trailer shows Springfield reimagined as New New York, and you’ll play as Philip J. Fry delivering fares throughout the city.

Futurama received a video game release in 2003 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and also appeared in a few mobile games. Beyond those and some special collaborations – like an event in Fortnite – the series hasn’t been featured in many video games.

In 2023, McGinn expressed support for an official remake of the video game The Simpsons: Hit & Run. While an official version isn’t currently in development, fans are creating their own impressive remake using Unreal Engine 5.

It looks very likely that characters from The Simpsons will be added to Fortnite, potentially as early as November 1st. While Epic Games hasn’t confirmed anything yet, rumors indicate that Springfield, the town from the show, might even become a playable area within the game.
