Certified Fresh

After the conclusion of “Gossip Girl,” which ran for six seasons on The CW from 2007 to 2012, Blake Lively faced challenges in finding a project that would captivate both fans and viewers. However, her major success came in 2018 with the adaptation of a well-known work.

As a film enthusiast, I must say that for me, “A Simple Favor” truly stood out among Blake Lively’s other successful films like “The Age of Adaline” and “The Shallows”. This film was not only a box office hit but also received widespread critical acclaim, making it the only one of her leading roles to garner such praise. Based on Darcey Bell’s novel, the first installment was so well-received that the team decided to reunite for “Another Simple Favor”. The sequel had a promising start, premiering at the South by Southwest Festival in early March to critical acclaim. However, over time, it has unfortunately achieved an unwanted milestone – it has lost its Certified Fresh badge on various review platforms.

Despite the ongoing dispute and court case surrounding “It Ends With Us”, Lively debuted her newest movie at SXSW, accompanied by her fellow actors and director Paul Feig. The film garnered praise from critics, earning it a ‘Certified Fresh’ badge.

After debuting on streaming platforms on May 1st, the movie’s rating saw ups and downs as more reviews rolled in. Initially reaching a high of 83%, it subsequently started to decline. In just two short days, Another Simple Favor achieved an astonishing turnaround and plummeted to 67% based on 96 reviews, thus losing its ‘Certified Fresh’ status. Despite the sequel’s rating not being particularly impressive, it still meets the criteria for a “fresh” badge.

Initially, the movie “Another Simple Favor” was not well-liked by viewers, with a low approval rating of 43% on the Popcornmeter. However, as more people watched the film, the audience score slightly increased to 47%, but it’s still not something worth boasting about.

Another Simple Favor Became a Hit on Streaming

Blake Lively’s new movie has been getting lots of attention due to the saying “all publicity is good publicity” holding true for it. However, she’s embroiled in a complicated legal dispute with her former co-star and director Justin Baldoni from the film “It Ends With Us“. There are allegations of a smear campaign aimed at damaging Lively’s reputation, to which Baldoni responded by filing a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, her publicist, and her husband Ryan Reynolds. The trial is scheduled for March 2026, and people seem to be taking sides between the two parties online.

Despite Baldoni having a dedicated team of online detectives who unearthed crucial details for the impending trial, Blake Lively’s fame remains undiminished. Many enthusiasts swore off watching the movie, but two days following its release on Prime Video, Another Simple Favor climbed to the top spot globally, including in the U.S.. Initially, the sequel trailed behind the sci-fi horror Ash, but it eventually overtook it and took the lead on the charts.

Another Simple Favor is streaming on Prime Video.
