Sisu Sequel Announced: Action Fans Are in for a Brutal New Ride!

A highly praised action war movie from recent times is set to receive a follow-up, which is rapidly approaching. As per a recent press statement, Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems will distribute the sequel to the widely admired action film Sisu, in American cinemas on November 21, 2025. This sequel has been penned and directed by renowned Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander. The original star, Jorma Tommila, will reprise his role, joined by Richard Brake and Stephen Lang. Petri Jokiranta produced the movie through Subzero Film Entertainment, in collaboration with Good Chaos and Mike Goodridge. Gregory Ouanhon and Antonio Salas serve as executive producers.

Filmmaker Jalmari Helander is swiftly gaining recognition as one of the most thrilling action movie directors. His journey began with the unexpected international success of the 2010 film “Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale“, a unique blend of action, folk horror, and Christmas that has become an enduring cult favorite. He ventured into Hollywood with the underestimated 2015 production “Big Game“, featuring Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Stevenson, and Jim Broadbent. However, it was 2022’s “Sisu” that truly showcased Helander at his best and solidified his status as a contemporary action genius. “Sisu” received a Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score of 94% based on 182 reviews, and an impressive audience score of 88%.

2022 saw the global debut of Sisu at the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival, where it garnered exceptional praise. Subsequently, it was showcased at the Sitges Film Festival, bagging accolades for Best Feature Film, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Music. In the United States, it opened among the top-10 films in cinemas, and has since been released globally.

Set towards the end of World War II, as the Nazis employ a destructive “scorched-earth” strategy on their retreat through Finland, leaving destruction in every town they pass and capturing a few individuals. The narrative centers around Aatami Korpi, a soldier famed as “The Immortal” due to his exceptional combat and survival abilities during the war. After discovering a wealth of gold hidden in the wilderness, Aatami embarks on a perilous journey home, knowing he’ll encounter countless fleeing Nazis along the way. MovieWeb’s review for Sisu highlights:

[In this rephrased version, I have attempted to maintain the original meaning while using more natural and easy-to-read language.]

In SISU, when the action kicks off, it transforms into a relentless orgy of violence. From Aatami employing Nazi soldiers as shields to brutal knife attacks on their heads, each action scene seems determined to surpass its predecessor, creating an almost unrealistic scenario that requires a significant leap of faith from viewers. Yet, there’s something gratifying about this portrayal – after all, it’s Nazis being killed. Helander’s cinematography captures Aatami’s movements elegantly, tracking him as he gracefully navigates through the Nazi platoon, swiftly disposing of soldiers. It’s a blend of brutality and beauty, reminiscent of the current action hero par excellence, John Wick.

Good Chaos Is a Production Company to Look Out For
