James Gunn’s Superman Teases DCU’s Justice League: The Justice Gang Is Here!

In James Gunn’s fresh take on the DC Universe, the hint about the Justice League has grown even bigger, and I can see Superman playing a pivotal role in assembling this team. Although Marvel’s Avengers movies have dominated the superhero team film genre, I think DC’s Justice League, widely regarded as one of the best superhero teams from the comics, holds immense potential. Regrettably, the DCEU’s films didn’t do justice to multiple heroes, resulting in 2017’s Justice League underperforming and failing to reach its full potential due to poor planning.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a more accurate portrayal of the Justice League in live-action, but I believe there could be an even better adaptation of the team in future DC movies. It’s surprising that no Justice League movie has been announced for the DCU’s Chapter One yet. However, the shared universe is already setting up the team’s introduction, both through animation and live-action. A recent tease related to James Gunn’s Superman movie makes me feel we are nearing a new Justice League.

The Justice League Has Already Appeared In The DCU

DC’s Premiere Superhero Team Made A Surprising DCU Appearance

Although no Justice League film has been announced yet for the DCU, the team unexpectedly showed up in the initial venture of Gunn’s new universe. However, these heroes didn’t materialize on screen as live-action characters, but rather as animated ones. Max’s Creature Commandos marked the beginning of the DCU, as a TV-MA animated series presented an eclectic group of monsters filled with warmth, gore, and unexpected moments. One such instance was the introduction of several heroes who didn’t speak on the show, instead making surprise appearances in a jaw-dropping scene.

In the series Creature Commandos, the villain Circe, portrayed by Anya Chalotra from The Witcher, presented Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller a chilling vision of a future where Princess Ilana Rostovic ruled with an iron grip. In this grim depiction, Ilana’s troops brutally murdered numerous heroes, apparently taking the lives of the DC Universe’s Justice League members, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Starfire, Booster Gold, Robin, and many others. Although I was prepared for some unexpected twists from Creature Commandos, I certainly didn’t foresee that the show would introduce characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Starfire, Booster Gold, Robin, and numerous others – all of whom were deceased in this sequence.

Superman Movie Merchandise Teases The DCU’s Justice League

The Other Heroes Of The DC Movie Have An Interesting Team Name

Following their brief appearance in “Creature Commandos”, the DC Universe’s Justice League has received its most intriguing hint to date. For quite some time, fans have speculated about how the heroes from Gunn’s “Superman” film might pave the way for the formation of the Justice League. Now, a toy line reveal by Mattel (via “Superman Homepage”) has confirmed that this film’s superhero group will indeed be associated with the Justice League. According to the merchandise from the Superman movie, the team consisting of Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, and Hawkgirl will be known as the Justice Squad.

In simpler terms, it appears that David Corenswet’s Superman is going to collaborate with the members of a team known as the Justice Gang, similar to the Justice League, according to the movie trailers. However, it seems that Superman isn’t officially part of this team yet. Given the dynamics and the name of the superhero group, which sounds like something a character named Guy might create, I have no doubt that we will witness the formation of the DC Universe’s Justice League in the show “Superman,” with the Justice Gang potentially transitioning into the full Justice League towards the end.

How David Corenswet’s Superman Can Lead To The DCU’s Justice League

The Man Of Steel Is The Perfect Hero To Create The Team

The team’s name, currently known as the Justice Gang, doesn’t have to remain unchanged. If Superman, played by Corenswet in the DCU’s first movie, were to join them, it could result in a new name. Transforming from their temporary title to the Justice League would be appropriate if Superman were to become a member before the film ends. The term “League” aligns well with the character of Steel Man, as it symbolizes unity and an alliance – themes that resonate deeply with Superman, particularly in Gunn’s interpretation of Clark Kent.

Superman Movie Cast
Actor Character
David Corenswet Clark Kent/Superman
Rachel Brosnahan Lois Lane
Nicholas Hoult Lex Luthor
Skyler Gisondo Jimmy Olsen
Terence Rosemore Otis
Sara Sampaio Eve Teschmacher
Nathan Fillion Guy Gardner/Green Lantern
Edi Gathegi Michael Holt/Mister Terrific
Isabela Merced Hawkgirl
Anthony Carrigan Rex Mason/Metamorpho
Maria Gabriela De Faria Angela Spica/The Engineer

The proposed new name for the Justice Gang seems like something Superman, as portrayed by Corenswet, might suggest. Given that the first DC Universe movie was titled “Superman,” and James Gunn has mentioned the film’s success could shape the franchise’s future, it makes sense for the hero to originate the concept of the Justice League. With Corenswet’s Man of Steel serving as a pivotal figure in the DCU, it is fitting that he would be the one who names the Justice League.
