Jacob Elordi Wanted To ‘Take a Break’ From Acting Until Emerald Fennell Asked Him to Star in ‘Wuthering Heights’: ‘You Can’t Run From That Text’

If not for Emerald Fennell’s efforts, we might have had to endure a delay of several years before seeing Jacob Elordi on the big screen once more.

More recently, Elordi shared that he had intended to take a break from acting. However, it was when director Fennell invited him to play the lead role in her upcoming adaptation of Emily Brontë’s 1847 romance novel “Wuthering Heights” that he decided to return to acting.

Elordi told IndieWire he felt incredibly fortunate. He had planned to take some time off, but suddenly received a message from Emerald that he couldn’t ignore.

Elordi commended his acting partner, Margot Robbie, for her portrayal of Catherine Earnshaw, opposite his role as Heathcliff. (This sentence implies that they were co-stars in a play or movie adaptation of Wuthering Heights.)

Elordi praised her performance in the movie, calling her electrifying. He’s absolutely thrilled for everyone to witness it. She’s an exceptional actress who truly poured herself into the role.

As a cinephile eagerly anticipating the silver screen, I am thrilled to share that I will be contributing to the scriptwriting and production of an upcoming adaptation of Emily Brontë’s timeless masterpiece, “Wuthering Heights.” In partnership with MRC and my long-standing collaborators at LuckyChap Entertainment, we are set to breathe new life into this classic tale. This marks our third joint venture following the critically acclaimed successes of “Promising Young Woman” in 2020 and the yet-to-be-released “Saltburn” in 2023. I can hardly wait to immerse myself in the passionate, turbulent world of Heathcliff and Catherine once more!

In an interview with EbMaster in January, Robbie commended Fennell’s skills as a filmmaker, stating that she “swiftly draws you into a realm. She is incredibly proficient at setting the mood and developing the storyline; you find yourself immersed within it almost instantly – ‘I’m part of this world,’ you might think immediately.

Robbie said, ‘She manages to penetrate deep into your thoughts and access your darkest impulses, making you a part of the narrative.’ He explained that this is what makes for a captivating discussion point, something people still talk about two weeks later.
