The “Pacific Rim” TV series has found a home at Amazon, EbMaster has learned exclusively.
The exclusive report made by EbMaster back in 2024 about this live-action project is currently being developed at Prime Video. This development comes as a result of a partnership between Legendary Television, the main studio, and Amazon MGM Studios.
Previously announced, Eric Heisserer has taken on the role of writer and executive producer under his Chronology label. This marks the initial venture of Chronology under their first-look TV agreement with Legendary. Though specific storyline particulars are being kept secret, the series will act as a prequel to the movies. Insiders suggest that there may yet be additional films in the series to come.
In 2013, the initial installment of this series was helmed by Guillermo del Toro, who co-wrote the script with Travis Beacham. This movie earned over $400 million at worldwide box offices. The second film, “Pacific Rim Uprising,” hit the screens in 2018. Meanwhile, an anime series titled “Pacific Rim: The Black” was streamed for two seasons on Netflix from 2021 to 2022. In addition to films, this franchise also encompasses comic books, novels, toys, and other merchandise.
In the movie “Pacific Rim,” a gateway from another dimension mysteriously appears at the Pacific Ocean floor, unleashing colossal monsters known as kaijus into our reality. To defend against these threats, humans invent towering battle mechs called Jaegers.
Most recently, Eric Heisserer served as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the “Shadow and Bone” TV series on Netflix, adapted from the Grishaverse YA novels. His work on “Arrival,” which earned him an Academy Award nomination for best adapted screenplay in 2017, is also noteworthy. Other feature films he’s written include the successful Netflix film “Bird Box,” as well as “Lights Out,” “Hours” (which he also directed), “Bloodshot,” and the 2010 remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve got some fresh updates about the collaborative efforts between Legendary TV, Amazon MGM Studios, and Pacesetter Productions. Earlier reports suggested that they were teaming up to create a series based on G. T. Karber’s intriguing murder mystery puzzles titled “Murdle”. In addition to this project, Legendary is currently working on multiple shows such as the live-action Monsterverse series “Monarch” for Apple TV+, and other titles like “Dune: Prophecy” on Max, and the animated series “The Legend of Lara Croft” on Netflix.
