Runescape Dragonwilds roadmap is here. Should Valheim be worried?

Four years ago, Iron Gate unveiled one of the most thriving survival games – Valheim. Although it’s still being developed with fresh content added gradually, the gaming market doesn’t stand still. In this timeframe, numerous rivals have surfaced, and one of them is RuneScape Dragonwilds that made its debut on PC yesterday. Just as anticipated, it’s a survival game set in a fantastical realm (specifically within the universe of the iconic MMORPG, RuneScape). In

RuneScape Dragonwilds roadmap

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the brilliant minds behind RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Jagex, have unveiled a comprehensive roadmap! This means we now have a clearer picture of what exciting developments are in store during the later phases of early access. There are several enticing features on the horizon that we should eagerly anticipate.

Features in development

  1. New region called Fellhollow, a domain of undead, with the soul-eater dragon Imaru as a ruler.
  2. New skills from all categories: Magic, Ranged and Farming. Moreover. Skill cap itself will be also raised.
  3. Of course, fresh quests and gear are also points on the roadmap. Be ready to listen to new music and learn more about lore of this interesting world, too.
  4. Two additional game modes – hardcore and creative.
  5. At some point we will get a new enemy – lesser dragon – and more animals.
  6. Improvement of the building feature – expanded base and defenses.
  7. Additional vaults.
  8. More crafting tiers

Ongoing improvements

  1. Lighting and weather.
  2. Multiplayer and difficulty.
  3. Performance.
  4. Combat.
  5. Messaging and Tutorialisation.

During the interview, Jagex’s Senior Community Manager, Mod Doom, disclosed that the team aims for new updates approximately every 3 to 4 months. Such a timeline is quite ambitious, given its frequency.

While developers may initially have plans to release updates or new features, such as the four planned for Valheim in 2021, these timelines can often change due to unforeseen circumstances. For instance, the Mistland biome, which was supposed to be added in 2021, didn’t show up until late 2022. As of now, we’re still uncertain about when version 1.0 will be released, even in 2025.
