‘Based on a True Story,’ ‘Mr. Throwback’ Canceled at Peacock (EXCLUSIVE)

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m sad to report that two comedies near and dear to my heart, “Based on a True Story” and “Mr. Throwback,” have been axed from Peacock’s lineup. Exclusively, I’ve learned this heartbreaking news. The second season of “Based on a True Story” premiered in November 2024, while “Mr. Throwback” graced our screens with its sole season on the NBCUniversal streamer back in August 2024.

Since Peacock doesn’t typically disclose viewership data, it’s challenging to pinpoint the precise number of viewers for either program. However, upon their debut, both shows garnered positive critical acclaim.

Set in reality-inspired events, the series ‘Based on a True Story’ features Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina as a cash-strapped duo who embark on a true crime podcast to probe whether their plumber is potentially a serial killer. The ensemble includes Tom Bateman, Liana Liberato, and Priscilla Quintana. This show debuted in the year 2023.

Craig Rosenberg originated the show and acted as its chief producer. Annie Weisman took on roles as writer, series manager, and co-producer during Season 2; Jaclyn Moore also contributed as a writer and co-producer. Both Cuoco and Messina held positions as producers in addition to their acting roles. Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan served as executive producers through Aggregate Films, while Alex Buono took on the roles of producer and director for several episodes.
