Russian Twitch Streamer Attacked in Tokyo as Japan Clamps Down on Influencer Behavior

During a recent trip, a Russian Twitch broadcaster encountered a heated exchange with a disgruntled resident of Japan. This occurrence, now trending online, happened when the streamer was recording the individual.

More and more content creators are finding Japan to be a growing favorite travel spot, with an influx of influencers visiting the country to capture footage of their shopping sprees, nightlife experiences, and sightseeing adventures.

On the other hand, various well-known broadcasters have encountered criticism because of their actions during their visits to this place. For instance, a popular Twitch streamer named Mizkif was criticized for doing pull-ups on a Sakura cherry blossom tree branch – a significant and culturally valued plant in Japan.

Currently, another content producer has sparked controversy by capturing a passerby on video during a stroll in Japan, who was not pleased with the recording.

Russian Twitch streamer assaulted after filming man in Tokyo broadcast

Back in April 2025, ‘Gilticus’, a popular Twitch streamer from Russia, was streaming her stroll around Tokyo. As she made her way, she encountered a parking garage with an elderly gentleman standing outside it.

Spotting her recording, he folded his arms into a ‘x’ shape and moved towards her, querying what she was up to and warning that he would summon the authorities.

He persistently advanced towards the streamer, pushing her onto the sidewalk. As she tried to escape, he snatched her bag, leading to a struggle which propelled them both into the road.

Fortunately, a couple of witnesses intervened during the altercation and stepped in as mediators. One of them noticed that the man had accidentally damaged her bag. After reprimanding him, they contacted the police, who requested an apology from both parties and advised the live-streamer to continue on their way.

In contrast to many Western nations, Japan’s rules about capturing images in public places are distinct: While it’s typically acceptable to take photos or videos in public, sharing someone’s photo without their permission might infringe upon their portrait and privacy protections.

In Japan, this is another case of an influencer being involved in a viral controversy, following the imprisonment and fines imposed on infamous live-streamer Johnny Somali due to his disorderly behavior in the country. Similar occurrences have been reported across Asia, with Twitch streamer Vitaly facing a prison sentence for intimidating locals in the Philippines.
