‘The Alchemist’ Movie Adaptation Eyes ‘Adolescence’ Director Philip Barantini (EXCLUSIVE)

After the massive popularity of the streaming show “Adolescence,” its director, Philip Barantini, is now receiving major industry attention.

According to reports from EbMaster, the renowned director Barantini, who was once an actor and created one of Netflix’s top four English language series, is currently in negotiations to bring the classic novel “The Alchemist” to life on the big screen as a grand cinematic adaptation.

Legendary is working on a film adaptation of the book “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho, originally published in 1988. This book has sold over 150 million copies and has remained at the top of the New York Times best-seller list for over 400 weeks, making it the most translated work by a living author. The production of “The Alchemist” has brought a wave of excitement to town, following Legendary’s successful release of “A Minecraft Movie” through Warner Bros. In this story, we follow Santiago, a young man who dreams of finding a worldly treasure as valuable as any ever discovered.

According to reports, director Damian Louis Barantini is aiming for production to begin in 2026. Interestingly, he’s transitioning from his current role directing the third part of Millie Bobby Brown’s “Enola Holmes” series on Netflix. At the moment, representatives for Barantini have yet to comment on this development.

Liverpool-born Barantini and his collaborator Stephen Graham have made a significant impact in the U.S. with their show ‘Adolescence.’ This gripping series offers a chilling portrayal of modern boyhood amidst the desert of digital culture. It has sparked increased political activism, focusing on regulating social media and limiting device usage for young people.

Barantini’s accomplishments encompass a four-time BAFTA nominee feature film titled “Boiling Point,” which has been transformed into a popular BBC series now airing its second season. Additionally, Barantini developed, directed, and served as executive producer for the ITV production “Malpractice.” In his acting career, he has been featured in productions such as “Dream Team,” “Band of Brothers,” and “The Responder.
