Hornet’s Movement In Hollow Knight: Silksong Might Remind You Of Another Iconic Metroidvania

As an avid fan, I can’t help but feel excited about Hollow Knight: Silksong, the much-anticipated sequel from Team Cherry. In this game, I find myself taking on the role of Protagonist Hornet, a character that, while different from the Vessel in various ways, still manages to resonate with me thanks to some nostalgic animations that bring to mind one of the most iconic metroidvanias ever created.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice an intriguing maneuver in Hornet’s movements when she changes direction in-game. Unlike most characters who simply flip to face the new direction, Hornet appears to backstep and turns as if facing it first. This style is reminiscent of Alucard in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, suggesting that this unique trait might have been inspired by him.

Initially, I intended to compliment Silksong for its animations reminiscent of Alucard’s, but upon comparison, it turns out they are using the same character controller – a funny coincidence, wouldn’t you agree? (By the way, I find that amusing!)

In simpler terms, Hornet’s animations for standard and diagonal air attacks resemble those of Alucard’s, but her backstep move seems to be reminiscent of the original version from Konami’s classic games, thoughtfully recreated in a more modern setting. So far, Team Cherry hasn’t said anything about this comparison, but fans who have followed the genre for a long time are likely to find it appealing the most.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but express my excitement about Hollow Knight: Silksong! Just a week into its release, it has left an indelible mark, causing quite a stir and temporarily toppling numerous storefronts at launch. It’s now boasting over 5 million players worldwide!

The game has already sparked debates on its level of challenge, with some finding it particularly demanding. To ease the experience for newcomers, a balance update was recently rolled out to soften early encounters, making the game a bit more approachable without losing its edge.

But that’s not all-hidden within the game lies an even more brutal mode, promising even tougher skirmishes for those who dare to explore!
