In the final moments of Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4, we got a chilling preview of the latest and most terrifying antagonist: Muse.
For several decades, Daredevil has consistently been among Marvel’s most beloved superheroes. Yet, despite his widespread appeal, he tends to lack a significant number of enduring, new villains compared to other characters.
It’s noteworthy that he often confronts some of Marvel’s most iconic villains, such as fighting for the soul of Hell’s Kitchen against The Kingpin or participating in timeless ninja narratives against The Hand, which frequently earn Daredevil recognition as a book of the year.
Despite previous efforts, fresh characters have been created too. For instance, in 2016, the reintroduction of Daredevil introduced a new significant adversary called Muse. This character was both a chilling street artist and a serial killer.
Muse’s origin in Daredevil comics explained
2016’s Dark Art narrative introduces Muse. The plot revolves around Daredevil, who is juggling two distinct roles: transitioning from his civilian job as a District Attorney and guiding a novice vigilante, Blindspot, in his superhero persona.
In Dark Art, Daredevil, along with Daredevil and Blindspot, uncover a chilling artwork created using the blood of more than a hundred individuals. Eager to identify the artist behind this grotesque masterpiece, they unwittingly come across an art gallery filled with deceased Inhumans, each piece being their actual bodies.

As a gamer immersed in this gritty narrative, I’ve come to learn that the eerie masterpieces are creations of Muse, an enigmatic serial killer who manages to elude Daredevil’s heightened senses. This elusive fiend even targets city officials to add to his twisted collection, but Blindspot steps in to halt his progress. Unfortunately, before Daredevil can swoop in for the save, Blindspot suffers a gruesome fate – Muse gouges out his eyes as retribution for his meddling.
Inhumans imprisoned Muse, but he managed to break free due to New York’s anti-vigilante laws being instated by Kingpin, Wilson Fisk. By then, Blindspot had recovered his sight after joining The Hand, yet was struggling against The Beast’s influence. He marked out Muse by vandalizing one of his artworks.
In another phrasing: Blindspot and Muse engaged in a fierce battle, but Blindspot managed to resist the control of the Beast, choosing not to kill him instead. Saddened that Blindspot had taken his limelight, Muse stepped into a pile of burning rubble and perished. Since then, he has remained deceased; however, considering how frequently characters are resurrected by The Hand or similar means, it’s plausible that he could come back to life at some point in the future.
