Adjoa Andoh, Evangeline Lilly, Giorgio Moroder Set for Tributes at New Italian Global Series TV Festival

An exciting, high-profile event centered around international TV series is set to debut in Italy, featuring stars like Adjoa Andoh from “Bridgerton”, Evangeline Lilly known for her role in “Lost”, and the legendary Giorgio Moroder, Italy’s ‘Godfather of Disco’. These distinguished individuals will be honored with career accolades at the event.

Additionally, the lineup for honors at the new International Global Series Festival (IGSF) includes the well-known Italian comedic actor and director Carlo Verdone, as well as the beloved actress Elena Sofia Ricci. Notably, she has recently played a leading role in RAI’s highly-acclaimed Holocaust drama “The Driven Mad Butterfly.

The International Gypsy Story Film Festival (IGSF) is being compared to a revival of the Roma Fiction Festival, which took place in Rome from 2006 to 2016. This festival was initiated due to a strong desire within Italy’s television production industry to broaden their perspectives during that period.

Unlike its previous iteration, this year’s TV event will take place in two neighboring Italian coastal resorts, Riccione and Rimini, from June 21st to the 28th. This new date adds another seaside event to Italy’s busy June schedule, which already includes the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily (June 10-14) and Filming Italy Sardegna (June 20-23).

The upcoming TV event won’t be held at a single location like before. Instead, it will take place in two Italian beach towns, Riccione and Rimini, between June 21st to 28th. This new event adds another seaside festival to the list of events happening in Italy during June, which also includes the Taormina Film Festival (Sicily, June 10-14) and Filming Italy Sardegna (June 20-23).

The Italian journalist Marco Spagnoli, who serves as deputy director at Rome’s MIA Market, has been chosen to take on the role of artistic director for IGSF. This event is jointly organized by Italy’s TV producers’ association APA, in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers (SIAE).

The initial edition of IGSF is intended to encompass two main aspects: an international competition segment along with an Italian one. It will also showcase premiere screenings, keynote speeches, and panel discussions. These events will be led by Piera Detassis, the president of the David di Donatello Awards – often referred to as Italy’s Oscars – and Laura Delli Colli, head of Italy’s film journalists’ union, acting as moderators.

The jury for IGSF will comprise esteemed filmmakers such as two-time Palme d’Or winner Bille August, whose TV adaptation of “The Count of Monte Cristo” has gained significant popularity in Italy. Also on the team is Oscar-nominated director Cristina Comencini known for her work on “Don’t Tell,” and Paolo Genovese, acclaimed for co-writing and directing the worldwide sensation “Perfect Strangers.

The fest’s full program will be unveiled in early May.
