Scarlett Johansson Calls ‘SNL’ Joke About Her Vagina ‘So Gross’ and ‘I Can’t Believe They Went There,’ Explains Why She Won’t Take Photos With Fans in Public

Scarlett Johansson has spoken up about the explicit “Saturday Night Live” vagina joke read by her husband, Colin Jost, which was unexpectedly aired. In an interview with InStyle magazine, she expressed her astonishment, saying it was “extremely vulgar” and she couldn’t believe they went that far. Earlier, Jost shared on “The Tonight Show” that Johansson was genuinely surprised by the joke’s content.

Johansson exclaimed, ‘It was simply disgusting!’ She chuckled as she continued, ‘Very old-fashioned disgusting.’

During the traditional joke exchange between Jost and Che in their “Weekend Update” segment during the “SNL” Christmas special (aired December 21), they each read jokes they’d written for one another, unaware of what the other had prepared. In the latest round, Che asked Jost to make a joke about Costco and Johansson’s private parts.

Jost’s humorous comment goes like this: “Costco took away their roast beef sandwich, but I don’t mind. Ever since our child was born, I’ve been eating roast beef every evening.” The SNL audience gasped, and the camera showed Johansson backstage with a shocked expression on her face.

Johansson shared that she found the situation quite amusing,” she admitted, clarifying that the producers had informed her in advance that an ‘explicit humor about female genitalia’ was included in the script for the upcoming episode.

Johansson exclaimed, ‘Well, I guess it’s a joke about female anatomy, so it can’t be too offensive, right?’ But when the Costco picture popped up, she quickly retorted, ‘No, Michael! Absolutely not!’

She discovered the cameras surrounding her backstage, aiming to record her genuine response to the joke in real-time, left her feeling “extremely intense”. She continued, “Suddenly, it felt as if a multitude of people were shining lights at me, and someone with a video camera was waiting for my reaction. I became disoriented. I thought to myself, ‘I think I might pass out.’

Johansson is comfortable with being captured on camera behind the scenes during “SNL,” since it’s such a significant occasion. However, she shared with InStyle that she adheres to a firm rule in her private life by refraining from taking pictures with fans in public areas.

She stated that it bothers many individuals greatly,” she said. “This doesn’t imply that I’m ungrateful or not pleased that people admire me, or are glad to see me. However, I always make it clear to people, ‘I’m not working.’ [In other words], I don’t want to be associated with being present at this time and place with you. I’m busy doing my own activities.

Johnssoen prefers to immerse herself in personal musings unrelated to others’ opinions, and she explained this by stating that she avoids fan photographs because she dislikes feeling self-conscious.
