The Traitors Season-Finale Recap: Fire Away

After a tense wait following a dramatic twist, we’ve learned Britney’s decision at last. Over the past week, I began to suspect that the cliffhanger was merely for dramatic effect and Britney wouldn’t betray Danielle. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my skepticism was unfounded. In a heartfelt moment, Britney revealed that she had indeed eliminated Danielle from the competition. This act of betrayal echoed their past encounter on Big Brother, as Danielle lamented, “It happened to me again.

This scene feels like a movie moment, as history seems to be replaying itself with bonds being snapped. The audience’s long-held frustration with Danielle is now justified by this singular, intense moment. To excel on ‘The Traitors‘, one needs either strategic skills or the ability to create compelling TV content. Regrettably, Danielle has struggled in both areas for most of the season. Her actions often lacked logic and coherence, but fortunately for her, ‘The Traitors’ is more about luck than strategy – so her missteps didn’t matter much. If only her actions had been entertaining as they unfolded, her blunders could have been excused. However, complaining isn’t usually engaging. Yet, all the time spent watching Danielle cause chaos this season has culminated in this surprising and dramatic betrayal.

Although the crowd is thrilled by the unexpected outcome, Britney isn’t basking in her triumph as she hadn’t planned for things to unfold this way. She had voted for Danielle, believing that Dolores had already sealed Danielle’s fate, and she wouldn’t have made that choice if she had known her vote would be decisive. As Danielle approaches the circle of truth, maintaining her composure for the first time this season, a troubled Britney looks at Dolores and mouthes, “What the heck?” Dolores seems to respond with, “Why are you giving me that look?” The mistake Britney made was trying to guess Dolores’s vote based on her facial expressions; it’s almost impossible to decipher Dolores’s votes from her words, let alone her expressions. Trying to predict how Dolores will vote is like attempting to capture smoke with your hands.

Danielle makes her identity known to the group with a dramatic toss of her hair, and she admits in a private moment that bringing Britney onto the team was a blunder. Somewhere, Carolyn is undoubtedly smiling with delight.

Although no murder will occur tonight, there’s still plenty more to attend to. We haven’t uncovered our mysterious Seer yet! Luckily for Britney, she’s been crowned as the title holder, sparing her from being exposed as a Traitor. However, no one can ever fully relax in this game, and even though Danielle has been eliminated, Dylan is hinting that she might still be a Traitor. He also advises everyone to be wary, for if Britney turns out to be a Traitor, she could falsely disclose the identity of her chosen Seer confidant.

In the end, she decides to meet with Gabby, and who wouldn’t? A private dinner with Gabby? It’s a dream! I’d be so caught up in laughter and enjoyment that I probably wouldn’t even remember to ask if she’s a Traitor or Faithful. But when the topic does arise, Gabby reveals her status as Faithful. However, it remains to be seen whether Britney will be truthful about this encounter with the rest of the group.

The response is affirmative! At breakfast, Britney openly reveals to everyone that Gabby is indeed a Faithful, which turns out to be a shrewd decision in multiple ways. To begin with, it endears Gabby, who feels she’s been granted an exclusive pass to victory in the game. Moreover, it debunks Dylan’s hypothesis that Britney might have falsely accused someone of being a Traitor. However, Dylan remains thoughtful and ponders over various possibilities, even entertaining the idea that both Britney and Gabby could potentially be Traitors, and their actions were merely part of an elaborate act.

One option among several, yet it appears nearly everyone concurs: There’s likely still a Treacherous figure in play. Dylan is encouraging Dolores and Ivar to settle their differences and prioritize eliminating Britney, who, in turn, has her sights on Dylan.

First off, it’s time for Lala to don her regal attire, resembling a miniature queen in a luxurious velvet gown. Secondarily, this signals a heist-style challenge for our characters, aiming to gather the remaining prize money. There will be calculations, there will be sprints, and there will be vehicles – but just as I was about to label it the most mundane mission, a helicopter appears on the horizon. The objective now requires our heroes to dangle from the chopper, dropping their winnings into a fiery ring to double their rewards. Now, this is exciting! Watching a Real Housewife soar through the skies is what initially drew me to this series. “If I were meant to fly, I’d have wings,” Dolores quips, yet they all leap into the air for a challenge that seems tailor-made to uncover their hair extension seams.

After everyone found it enjoyable and helped strengthen their bonds, once they returned to reality, the conflict continued. Immediately upon their return, Britney and Dylan began clashing with each other, attempting to gain support for their respective factions before the meeting. The tension was so high that Dolores even threatened to kill Dylan if he turned out to be a Traitor, which seemed justifiable under the circumstances!

Concerning Dolores, let’s take a moment to appreciate some standout moments from this episode. First, she praised Danielle, suggesting she should win an Oscar for her portrayal as a Traitor, referencing, “The way [she] dramatized and spasmed on the floor after they voted Carolyn out.” She also provided a memorable quote when asked about her feelings over their last breakfast: “I’m not emotional, that’s for weaklings.” Majestic indeed. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that she’s been sporting a sequined red pantsuit reminiscent of Liza Minnelli throughout most of this episode.

As a movie buff, I can’t help but appreciate the style on display during the roundtable discussions – everyone looking their finest indeed makes me ponder over the outfits that the contestants who were eliminated earlier could have worn. It’s a bit sad to think about it, but let’s get back to business.

So far, we’ve listened to Dylan and Britney airing their opposing views, yet it remains to be seen how they will present their arguments. Both seem to be presenting similar cases with evidence, but the way Britney delivers her argument is quite intense. She goes for the jugular, dismantling Dylan’s points with such fervor that he appears taken aback and unsure of how to respond.

In a remarkable performance by Britney, her most compelling point is made by none other than Dylan, who insinuates that she was turned into a traitor at some point. However, she counters this claim by stating that if anyone was to be recruited, it should have been him instead of her. And indeed, she makes a valid point! Yet, we know that Danielle wasn’t making rational decisions. Eventually, even Dylan admits he was outmatched, describing the situation as being like bringing a knife to a gunfight. But will Britney’s convincing debate performance be enough to keep her in the competition?

Britney’s lapse in judgment occurred when she reacted to Danielle being expelled, which had long-lasting consequences. Despite her skillful assaults on Dylan, her previous actions were hard to forget, leading everyone to vote for her banishment (also the final Traitor) from the game. Since this is the final discussion round, she departs without disclosing her true character, hoping that she has ignited a spark as she exits.

At the moment of truth’s arrival, a breathtaking disclosure left me speechless: ALAN’S BEAUTIFUL SHERPA COLLAR IS RETURNING! This is an incredible win for everyone involved, and I couldn’t be happier to see it become a recurring element in this series. When our final four contestants must choose between ending the game or expelling another player once more, they all (rather predictably) opt to reach the end together. Being Faithfuls, each of them secures their share of the prize. Earlier in the episode, we received a small hint when Gabby mentioned that if she wins, she might use the winnings for her wedding to Robby Hoffman. Given that they had only just publicly announced their marriage earlier, this comment seemed to foreshadow positive developments. With all four winners emerging, it sets a record for Faithfuls winning — but without any betrayal or expulsion at the truth’s fire, it concludes the season in a peaceful, if somewhat underwhelming, manner. Fortunately, the reunion will provide us with the drama we’ve been yearning for.
