Renowned Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is preparing to swap his director’s seat for a police uniform in the upcoming dual-language action drama “Dacoit – A Love Story,” starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur.
I’m thrilled to be joining this high-energy movie production, which is being filmed simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu. As Kashyap, I’ll be stepping into the role of a fearless inspector, known for his unwavering devotion to the Hindu God Ayyappa and intolerance towards corruption. The filmmakers have penned my character as intelligent, quick-witted, and sarcastic, which is an exciting challenge I’m eager to tackle.
The production group has unveiled a fresh poster, heightening the excitement for the intense action movie titled “Dacoit.” This film revolves around a vengeful ex-convict seeking retribution against his deceitful former lover. As the plot thickens, his perilous plan to capture her becomes a narrative of love, deceit, and retribution.
For the first time behind the camera, Shaneil Deo serves as director from a screenplay he co-wrote with Sesh. Produced by Supriya Yarlagadda, Suniel Narang is the co-producer. Annapurna Studios backs this project, which is currently filming in Hyderabad before shifting to Maharashtra for an extended shooting period.
Kashyap finds it enjoyable and complex to portray a police officer who’s also an Ayyappa devotee. Balancing his duty with his dharma while maintaining a dry wit is intriguing. I’m excited to bring this character to life in not one, but two languages: Hindi and Telugu. The tough part will be ensuring the impact remains consistent across both languages, something I’m finding immensely rewarding.
Kashyap, well recognized for directing intense movies like “Gangs of Wasseypur” and “Black Friday,” has also made a captivating mark in front of the camera. He previously portrayed a corrupt cop in Bollywood’s “Akira,” but it was his antagonist role in the Tamil-language thriller “Imaikkaa Nodigal” that truly stood out. This was followed by his intriguing performance in the dark comedy “AK vs AK,” where he engaged in a unique confrontation with Anil Kapoor in Netflix’s “AK vs AK.” Kashyap continued to exude menace in “Haddi” and recently added “Maharaja,” “Rifle Club,” and “Bad Cop” to his expanding list of acting roles, solidifying his aptitude for taking on complex characters with morally ambiguous backgrounds. Whether portraying a sinister antagonist or a shady operator, Kashyap’s screen choices continue to be as unpredictable and challenging as his filmmaking.
