In your journey across the diverse areas of The Living Lands within the game Avowed, you’ll find a consistent flow of main quests. But if you aim to level up faster and accrue more skill/attribute points, seek out assorted side quests, which can be identified by their distinctive symbols on the map.

One of these missions is named “Fires In The Mine” and it’s located within the Shatterscarp region. You can effortlessly initiate this mission by conversing with the Aedyran Soldier in Eagle’s Reach, who will share some troubles concerning the Sulfur Mines with you.

How To Reach The Sulfur Mines

In Avowed, to advance with this quest initially, you need to set foot in the Sulfur Mines located northwest of Shatterscarp. Normally, there’s an elevator close to Eagle’s Reach that can transport you there. However, when the quest begins, this elevator will be out of order, so you’ll have to discover a new route for your first journey.

As a gamer, I’d say: “Leaving Eagle’s Reach behind, make your way eastward until you come across a charred settlement known as Scaedclef. Once there, look for a route heading northeast from the village summit. This path will lead you to Deadfall Highlands Party Camp. From this camp, head west to arrive at Sulfur Mines Basecamp.

How To Clear The Spider Nests

At the base camp, locate the individuals responsible and they will assign you the duty of cleaning out the spider nests in the mines. To access the mine, simply follow the quest symbol as your guide, and here’s a tip on how to eliminate the nests within:

1. Use a flamethrower or other fire-based weapon to burn the nests.
2. If you don’t have a fire weapon, use explosives to destroy them.
3. Lastly, be sure to wear protective gear while clearing the nests to avoid being bitten by the spiders.

  • After entering the mines, initially, just stick to the main route but take moments to glance at the smaller recesses on your left side. This will help you locate a few treasure chests. When you arrive at an open space, locate the stairs on the left and ascend them. Then, follow the minecart tracks to your right once you’ve reached the upper level.

    After making this turn, vanquish the large spider that blocks your path, then continue through narrow openings. Subsequently, you will need to leap across several platforms, and upon reaching the top, look back to find a spiderweb along the minecart tracks ahead.

  • Clear these spider webs and leap over the damaged train tracks. Subsequently, you’ll discover a vast region where you should eliminate the initial cluster of eggs. Prepare your arsenal and armor in advance as this action will initiate a prolonged fight.

    Following the demolition of the initial den, opt for the alternate exit route and conveniently come across the second nest on your left side. Along this path, you’ll encounter a striking golden Sarcophagus adorned with Magran’s exclusive attire as well.

What Should You Do With Darle?

When you demolish the spider dens and prepare to leave the mine, Darle, who believes his explosion of the entrance can prevent the impending war between Aedyr and Thirdborn, will inform you. Here, you’ll be presented with two choices:

  • You can either let Darle go forward with his plan of exploding the mines, which will create tension between Kada and Ilena outside, and you’ll get no rewards.
  • Or you can challenge Darle and defeat him to get a few loot items from his body and another 900 currency from Ilena for successfully making the mines functional again.

Opting not to let Darle detonate the mine would be wiser since it results in greater rewards, as this decision doesn’t seem to have a significant long-term effect on the situation.
